First Annual Jingle Jog...
Here is the "low down" on this new event:
- This event will take place on December 20, with the first group starting the run at 8:20. Sixth grade will begin at 8:20, 5th grade @ 8:25, 4th grade @ 8:35, 3rd grade @ 8:40, 2nd grade @ 8:50, 1st grade @ 9:00 and kindergarten @ 9:10.
- The route for the Jingle Jog will take the students off campus, so all students will need to have a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian (these should come home Thursday). Here is a map of the route that we will be taking (Jingle Jog Route). Students will start at the double gate near our east parking lot and run/walk down Settler's Point Drive, turn on American Heroes Way, which turns into Cypress. The event will conclude through Cypress Park as the students enter our campus through the south gate. In total, the course is .85 miles.
- This event is not intended to be competitive, rather a chance to get outdoors and promote an active lifestyle.
- Holiday attire/headwear is encouraged :)
- Homeroom teachers will be on the course with their students, and all non-homeroom staff will be stationed at various points to ensure that student safety.
- When the students are done with the run/walk, the PTSO has purchased hot chocolate and candy canes for each of the students to enjoy with their classmates.
- We would absolutely LOVE for this to become a community event, so parents are more than welcome to come out and run/walk with us. If you have younger kids, that's not a problem, bring them and enjoy our beautiful Arizona winter weather! If you are willing to help with getting hot chocolate ready and/or volunteer to help take a group of kids around the course, please contact your student's homeroom teacher.
Spelling Bee Winners...
It takes a lot of courage to stand up and spell in this event, so a huge thank you goes out to all of our 26 contestants.
Parent Pick Up/Drop Off
- There is only one parent drop off lane, by creating a second, it slows down everyone else because our office crossing guard receives more traffic.
- There is NOT a parent pick up location on Settler's Point Drive. There are several students that wait near the marquee.
- Please adhere to the marked fire lanes and don't park your car there, even for a short time.
- Remember, our kids are watching you at all times. If they see you not adhering our safety procedures, what message does that send to them?
Digital Citizenship....
Gilbert Public Schools is working hard to become the first school district in Arizona to be recognized as a "Common Sense Media Certified District."
By the end of the school year, every teacher at Settler's Point will have been certified and taught lessons to ensure that students are being safe online.
Common Sense Media is a wonderful site to check for tips about online resources and what content is in shows and movies. Check out this resource on balancing media as a family.
