SRE Library Media Notes
September 2016
Ahoy! Just a few tidbits to keep you in the know.
I would like to do a small library orientation with your grade levels. Please let me know a morning time (8:15-8:30) when your grade level can stop by the Media Center or I can come to you. (2nd and 3rd grades we can schedule this during your PLT time if needed.)
Kindergarten and 1st Grades
We are continuing to practice book care and how to check out books. The students will soon be participating in the Global Read Aloud 2016 by doing an author/illustrator study featuring Lauren Castillo. During media, we will also do various learning stations such as creativity stations, listening centers, Lego exploration, etc. Please let me know if you would like to collaborate on learning activities that reinforce what the students are learning in class.
2nd and 3rd Grades
Although I’m not currently teaching your classes, please encourage your students to visit the library to circulate during morning checkout (8:45-9:10). Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 10:10-10:40 and 2:50-3:20 are also open times that you can bring your students as a class to checkout or in small groups of 3-4 students. Please email me if you would like to schedule a whole class visit for circulation or to use the library for research/projects.
4th & 5th Grades
During library the students and I will be reading Pax by Sara Pennypacker as part of the Global Read Aloud 2016. Students will join our library Google Classroom and participate in activities that will connect them to other students who are also reading the book. Please email me to let me know if you are interested in a copy of the book to follow along with us. I’m hoping to have guest readers that we may be able to broadcast, so that we are able to maintain the pace of the reading. Let me know if you would like to be a guest reader. I think the students would love it!
As noted by Ms. Hanley, I will help with the 5th grade economy project by teaching and reinforcing research skills. If you need me to do specific lessons to help with your content areas, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Thank you for your continued support of our Scotts Ridge School Library Media Center!
