WEEKLY EDITION - May 26th - May 29th

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE: Distance Learning Week Seven!

Hello Boulder Creek Families,

Two more weeks (nine school days) are remaining in this unusual school year. As we wind down, I want to encourage all of our students and families to hang in there with us until the end. Teachers will be assigning the iReady Math Assessment this week which will take the place of time spent on some math assignments.

Our staff and families make me exceptionally proud to be a part of the Boulder Creek Family. For in the face of adversity, our school community always rises above. Keep holding your head up high as we round the final curve to the finish line!

Once again, there is oh so much to read about below. Please scroll down and watch for the important information that pertains to you. As always, please feel free to reach out to any of our staff members through e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.

All my best,

Tina Croes

If you have school business that needs to take place in person, you will now have the chance to call and schedule a time to visit the school office. Our staff will be working on-campus from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. each school day through Friday, June 5th. Call our school office at 224-4140 if you have school business-related questions. If you need to be seen in person, our staff will schedule a time to expect you.

Incoming 7th graders, Kindergartners, and other new students:

California school immunization requirements remain the same. However, Back-to-School Shot Clinics will not be business, as usual, this year due to the social distancing requirements. We highly recommend parents start scheduling appointments with their primary care providers as soon as possible.

Boulder Creek 8th Grade Graduation Drive-Thru Ceremony

In an effort to send our 8th graders off to high school and say our final goodbyes in a special way, we will be holding a drive-thru ceremony in Boulder Creek’s front parking lot during our regularly scheduled graduation date and time, June 2, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. The 8th-grade teachers, administration, and other staff members will be on-hand and socially distanced to welcome our graduates and their families. We will need to limit the number of people in attendance to include one vehicle (no tows, RVs, busses, limousines, etc) for each of our 93 graduates and their immediate family (those who live with them). No vehicle occupant shall ride in the vehicle illegally. All family members will remain in their vehicles at all times with the exception of the graduate, and possibly one non-driver occupant who will only get out of the vehicle once it reaches the front of the line at the graduation stage area. At that time, the graduate’s name will be announced on a sound system along with any special honors. He/she will receive the diploma, awards, and program from staff members who are taking the appropriate health and safety precautions. We will provide a photographer to take a picture of your graduate receiving his/her diploma in order to allow all family members to remain in their vehicles. If students have borrowed a graduation gown, they will return the gown to an attendant on their way out of the parking lot.

All 8th-grade students should complete the graduation slide assignment provided by their English teacher, as this is a piece of Boulder Creek’s traditional graduation ceremonies that we will be including in a digital keepsake of graduation provided to every graduate. Please continue to watch for communication from your teachers.

*We will continue to fine-tune the logistics of our graduation plan over the next few days and provide you with the detailed guidelines of our drive-thru ceremony via a School Message.

This new Boulder Creek project/tradition is an awesome last week of school activity! We would like to dedicate the beginning of this tradition, our Only One You - Make the World a Better Place Rock Garden, to our graduating Class of 2020. Our 8th graders have found themselves members of a unique group of graduates in history. We hope they will all choose to participate in our project over the next few weeks and leave their inspirational mark on the Boulder Creek Community for years to come. Check out all the details HERE.

By now, you should have received a letter from the district office about creating an account in the PowerSchool parent portal. The letter contains a unique username and password for each of your students, so you will want to hang onto it until you set up your account. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will receive your child’s report card. This will also allow you to register any new students or transfer students to another one of our district schools. You do not need to re-register your student if they are returning to the same school next year. You will use this account to fill out an electronic emergency card when the new school year begins. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated. We have created how-to videos for you on our website, and you can always email help@eesd.net or call your school if you need further assistance.

  • help@eesd.net: for Chromebook questions (including how to get a device); technology troubleshooting as directed by your child's teacher
  • eesd.net: for online resources and other district information
  • bouldercreek.eesd.net: for weekly newsletters and other information

Having issues accessing your child's curriculum? Are things not going as smoothly as you would like? Try making sure your child is logged into your device's Chrome Browser. Once your child is logged into Chrome using their district assigned email and password, all of their curriculum and online programs will work more smoothly. For directions on how to do this, CLICK HERE to view this how-to video.

Another issue we have coming into the helpline from families is internet connections. From the screenshots our technology department is seeing, people are telling us our Chromebooks are broken. But in reality, the Chromebook is just not connected to their home network. As soon as they bring the device onto one of our school grounds, it works immediately. Just a reminder to our families that the internet is faster on our EESD school campuses. All families are welcome to take your classroom on the road and sit in the parking lot of any of our school sites and use our school network!

Q: Is my middle school child supposed to be receiving grades in PowerGrade/PowerSchool right now?

A: Middle School teachers will continue to maintain their Power School grade books, mostly as they have in the past. Most teachers have resumed including grades for missing work, as this is how many parents have expressed they learn how much their child has been participating. Participation in distance learning will look different on the final report card, however, familiar communication about assignments in PowerSchool is what has been requested by many parents.

If you have any concerns about your child(s) grades, please feel free to contact the teacher(s) directly. They will be happy to assist you.

Q: Will new Kindergarten assessments still take place in May as planned?

A: Due to the current public health and safety restrictions, face to face Kindergarten assessments scheduled for May 2020 will not take place at that time. We will make another attempt to schedule these assessments in early August. Pre-Kindergarten summer packets will be available for pick-up for all 2020-2021 TK and Kindergarten students to work on Kindergarten readiness skills over the summer. Thank you for your patience.

Q: I ordered a yearbook. Will BC still have one for 2019-20?

A: The answer is yes. Lifetouch has communicated that if we do not return to school this school year, they will arrange for a late pick-up or they will mail the books directly to families who ordered one. The last day to order was April 19, 2020.
