Battle of the Books
2018 5th & 6th Grade Camden County Championships
Wednesday, May 30, 2018
Rohrer Middle School, Haddon Township, NJ
What is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books is a reading motivation program. The goals of the program are to encourage reading for pleasure, to broaden reading interest, and to recognize students who enjoy reading.
Student teams of four to six read the books over a period of months, discuss them, quiz each other on the contents and then compete on teams to correctly answer questions based on the books. The questions used all begin with, “In what book…” so the answer will always be a title and an author.
The state-wide program involves a cooperative effort by many individuals and New Jersey Association of School Librarians (NJASL). It is popular with students and has provided new opportunities for academic competition. Battle of the Books has proven itself to be effective in its specified purpose: to stimulate an interest in reading.
Who is Competing in today's battle?
We have our 5th and 6th grade battle today and it is shaping up to be another close battle! There are 17 teams competing from around Camden County! These students have been reading and preparing for this battle throughout the entire school year. The BOTB committee would like to thank all the advisers for their hard work. We would also like to thank the Board of Education members from each school district & administration for your support and encouragement throughout the year.
