A Message from the Principal
Greetings St. Anthony Catholic High School Community!
Jesus, help us show joy to the world during this Christmas season.
What joy the Lord is bringing to our beautiful school! We had the most delightful mass with the Archbishop last week that was full of great wisdom for the students and everyone who attended. It was an honor to have Archbishop Gustavo share the light of the holy spirit in his message to the kids about not being couch potatoes and doing good in the world, doing God's work and living a good life by saying YES, like Mary did. He gave a beautiful message of hope, joy and fulfillment in living for God which is our daily prayer especially during this season of Advent.
This Saturday, our Young Oblates Club will once again be visiting the homeless and giving them a goodie bag while spreading love doing God's work. We are still in need of socks, small toiletries including shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, band-aids and gloves and Christmas candy. Please drop off any of these items you can contribute to the front office. If you are interested in joining the Young Oblates, contact our Director of Mission and Ministry, Rosi Cortez.
This past weekend, we had a great Saturday with many new 8th graders coming to take the HSPT test with us from all over San Antonio in the morning. In the evening, we celebrated Las Posadas with the Monte Vista community. We prayed, sang Christmas carols, shared some delicious tamales and time with Santa as a community. Several Monte Vista neighbors joined our walk just to be a part of our community and had fellowship with us back at the school gym. We made some new friends. Thank you to everyone who was able to make this special evening during the Christmas season.
We also made history with the brand new chapter and beginning of a National English Honor's Society. We inducted 57 students into the very first chapter of the NEHS. The English Department did a wonderful job working as a team to make this happen. Mr. Barton will serve as the Chair of the charter National English Honor Society. (see picture below).
Our girl's basketball team won 2 games last week and continue to play with their hearts and passion to win. In addition, Coach Ramos and a few other teachers have dedicated their Sunday afternoon to tutoring athletes due to the heavy schedule of tournaments during school days. We encourage athletes to take advantage of this precious time our teachers and coaches are providing for them on the weekend.
In addition, this week we will have the cafeteria open from 7:00am-8:00am each morning and from 3:00pm-6:00pm in the afternoon for a tutoring/homework center. Teachers are also providing special hours for tutoring this week so please check with your teachers if you need assistance with understanding a concept. We are making effort to provide opportunities to be successful as we close out the semester. The final grades on December 22 will be permanent on every student's transcript and we want them to do well to have a successful future.
More seniors are getting accepted into college and bringing in new acceptance letters daily. (see pictures below). We encourage all seniors that receive college acceptance letters or scholarships to bring them to school so we can highlight the great accomplishment.
The final exam schedule is posted below for next week. There will be early dismissal every day next week at 11:30am Tuesday-Friday. Please make arrangements to pick up your child.
Dear sweet Jesus- Thank you for your abundant love! Thank you for preparing our hearts to be more like you. Thank you for providing for us each day. We ask for your faith to be instilled in us during this season of Advent. Help us to live well and rejoice over all the gifts you have given us as we prepare to celebrate your birth. Make us kinder, more compassionate and have eyes more like you in the way we treat and see others. In Jesus name, Amen.
"Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths." Mark 1:3
May your life be blessed!
