Annual AMS SKYWATCHERS Event
AMS Eagles, you are invited to celebrate International Observe the Moon Night on Thursday, October 18th at 6 pm. The event will be held at Swan Creek Park by Athens Middle School.
We are honored to have Dr. Debra Needham, a planetary scientist at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, join us for this special event. Dr. Needham will be presenting and available for a Q&A session beginning at 6:00 pm in the gymnasium.
After the sun sets, we will head outside and catch a glimpse of the Moon. An Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic Dobsonian Telescope will be available, as well as guided tours of the Moon, planets and other celestial objects. Please bring your own telescope if you have one.
International Observe the Moon Night is an annual worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of our Moon and its connection to NASA planetary science and exploration. By the way, we are celebrating a couple of days early. All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. NASA’s IOMN is Saturday, October 20th. Therefore, go outside and look at that Moon again on Saturday!
