Students competed in a multitude of events from serious to silly. Ribbons were handed out for top running teams, tug of war became a downright 7th grade vs everyone battle and the whole thing was topped off with an all out water fight. Thank you to Mrs. Neveau and Mr. Baker for creating this purely joyful end of year tradition.

'We have come to the end of the school year and have much to celebrate! Our students have made great progress, our school has a new strategic plan, we have a newly formed PTA, and we have hired fantastic staff to join us in the next school year. I’d like to share just a few additional highlights.
I'm happy to announce that we have hired four teachers who will join the LPS team next year, and we look forward to years of collaboration and learning together.
Michelle Lazar comes to us from Grand Traverse Academy where she has been teaching elementary school since 2007. Michelle has also served as an instructional coach, and will be teaching on the 1st/2nd grade team next year. Michelle has a BS in Elementary Education from CMU and a Masters in Instruction, Assessment, and Curriculum from Marygrove College. Michelle's two children will also be joining us next year!
Sarah Rivers Smith will be joining us from Suttons Bay where she has been serving as a special education teacher since 2019. Sarah started her career in 2008 and has worked overseas and downstate. She will be teaching special education for us and is a Leland grad! Sarah has a BS in Education and Masters of Education from GVSU.
Ashley Heyboer, another Leland alum and LPS parent, will be joining us as a special education teacher. Ashley has spent the last seven of her 16-year teaching career at Creekside as a center-based teacher. Ashley holds a Bachelors of Education from Aquinas College and a Masters of Special Education from UM Dearborn.
And our very own Bailey Duperon, long-term sub extraordinaire, will be joining us as a full-time teacher on the 1st/2nd grade team! Bailey's kids attend LPS, her husband Bill is on our school board and is an LPS alum, and she is an integral member of our school community. Bailey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UM and a Masters of Arts in Social Work from the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration.
We are incredibly lucky that these outstanding people will be joining us.
Additionally, we have some internal changes as well.

- Kim Fowler will be teaching Title I interventions for K-8th graders

And we say goodbye to Dr. Dave. Dr. Dave has accepted a head of school position in Rabat, Morocco, and will be moving overseas. We are so grateful for all of his work, his commitment to our students, and his positive energy that he shared with all of us at LPS. We wish him well on his adventure!

Move This World - Social Emotional Learning
Dear Families,
To support our students’ social emotional needs and mental health, we are using a video-based social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum from Move This World. I’m excited to share that you’ll be able to access this helpful curriculum at home, too!
Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.
Below, you’ll find log in instructions:

Practicing social emotional learning at home can help your students:
Identity and recognize their emotions.
Build critical social skills.
Connect with themselves and others.
Navigate challenges they may be experiencing.
Adjust to the new school year.
Move This World is a social emotional learning program delivered through an extensive online library of PreK-12 videos and resources rooted in creative expression that help students, teachers and staff develop a common language to improve communication and build trust. We’re so glad that you’ll be able to access Move This World videos and resources at home, and hope they are helpful for your students and family.

Meet Authors & Get the Inside Scoop on Renovation Plans for the Leland Library
We are having an open house at the Leland Library to share the plans for a renovation that will start soon. Also at the open house will be 8 local authors who will be available to talk with people - share their stories about how they came to be authors, how libraries influenced their lives, sign and sell their books. It would be a great opportunity for kids to meet people that have devoted their lives to writing. We hope that we will fill the property with people both to meet the authors and give us a chance to share the plans for the library. I don't really have time to write anything and don't know that you need it. Maybe treat it like a social media post?
