A Game Changer.
This week, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox unveiled the new ELEVATE Dual Enrollment Scholarship Program, benefiting Tuscaloosa City Schools' students! Under the guidelines of the program, eligible students can earn up to six hours of college credit through either Shelton State Community College, Stillman College or The University of Alabama.
The mayor underscored his support of TCS in a Monday press conference.
“We want to give value to living in the city of Tuscaloosa and attending the Tuscaloosa city schools," said Maddox.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Daria called the opportunity a "game changer" for TCS students.
"That commitment to high expectations that the Tuscaloosa City Schools has for each and every student is reinforced with this ELEVATE dual enrollment funding," said Daria. "Where now, the school system’s commitment to equity and access becomes a reality--where funding is removed as a barrier to dual enrollment."
The Class of 2021 will have the first opportunity to participate in the scholarship program and will begin registering in the coming weeks.

January is School Board Member Recognition Month
“It takes strong schools to build a strong community, and these men and women devote countless hours to making sure our schools are helping every child learn at a higher level,” said Dr. Mike Daria, superintendent. “They make tough decisions every month and spend many hours studying education issues and regulations in order to provide the kind of accountability our citizens expect.”
Board members were recognized by school leaders at Tuesday's school board meeting.
Top 100 State Finalist
Northridge Middle School has made it to the second round of a nationwide competition where the winners have the opportunity to win $100,000! The school was named a state winner in the 10th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow program where students in grades 6-12 show how STEM can be applied to help improve their local communities.
NMS was the only middle school in Alabama to make it to this round of competition. Following recent news stories of abductions, students at Northridge proposed the development of a free app with a tracking type device that can be attached to everyday items. T
Successful completion of round two means the school will receive $15,000 and a video kit.
