When Shyima was 8 years old, her family lived in Egypt and were very poor. Her parents sold her into slavery to a wealthy family to pay Shyima's older sister's debt by stealing the wealthy family's money. So she was treated badly and unfair like if she was property. But even if this happened she stayed strong and hope that life would be better.
