Namib Desert
Cape of Good Hope
The Cape of Good Hope is a rocky headland on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa.
Why is it important?
The Cape of Good Hope marks the point where a ship begins to travel more eastward than southward. This helps the sailors who are passing by.
Johannesburg
Johannesburg also known as Jozi, is the largest city in South Africa by population. It is the wealthiest province in South Africa, having the largest economy of any metropolitan region in the Sub-Saharan Africa.
Why is it important?
Johannesburg is one of the capitals of South Africa. The world’s richest gold fields were discovered in Johannesburg during the 1880s.
Zambezi
It's a the fourth longest river in the world. It's source is in Namibia and flows through eastern Angola. along the eastern border of Namibia and the northern border of Botswana.
Why is it Important?
It provides most of Africa with hydroelectric power.
Limpopo River
It is a river that, rises in central southern Africa, and flows generally eastwards to the Indian Ocean.
Why is it important?
It is a water source for countries it flows through, and supplies water for farmers.
Lusaka
What is it?
Lusaka is the capital and largest city of Zambia. It is one of the fastest-developing cities in Southern Africa, Lusaka is located in the southern part of the central plateau.
Why is it important?
It is important because it is the capital of Zambia and its largest city. Lusaka is the centre of commerce and government in Zambia.
Kalahari Desert
What is it?
It is a desert in Africa. The kalahari desert is a large semi-arid sandy savannah in Southern Africa.
It covers much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa.
Why is it important?
The Kalahari supports more animals and plants than a true desert, such as the Nambib Desert to the west.
Cabinda
What is it?
Cabinda is an exclave and province of Angola, a status that has been disputed by many political organizations in the territory. The capital city is also called Cabinda.
Why is it important?
Cabinda is important because of its oil reserves. They produce nearly 1 million barrels a day.
Orange River
What is it?
It is a river that is the longest river in South Africa. It rises in the Drakensberg mountains in Lesotho, flowing westwards through South Africa to the Atlantic Ocean.
Why is it important?
The Orange River plays an important role in the South African economy by providing water for irrigation, as well as hydroelectric power.
Victoria Falls
What is it?
Victoria Falls is a waterfall in southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is the largest waterfall in the world.
Why is it important?
It is important because it is one of the main tourist attractions in Africa.
