TFAR: Texas Formative Assessment Resource Training
October 20, 2022
9:00-4:00
South Conference B & E
The Texas Formative Assessment Resource (TFAR) is an online platform that enables educators to create, administer, analyze, and share formative assessments. Data from formative assessments is used to inform teaching decisions and improve instructional supports. TFAR is an optional tool that is available at no cost to districts and open-enrollment charter schools and is not tied to accountability.
TFAR is meant to supplement and support existing district resources and formative assessment practices. Quizzes built using this tool should be combined with a broader set of classroom formative practices that are part of a coherent instructional framework.
At this training ESC 17 will be partnering with TEA to train teachers and instructional leaders on
- Create Assessment Items that Align with the new STAAR redesign
- Sharing Created Assessment Items and Full tests with teachers and districts
- Pulling Data from TFAR into Eduphoria and DMAC
- Looking at TFAR data in the Central Reporting System
In the afternoon, our ESC 17 content specialists and TEA representatives will help attendees digitize their assessment items (Exit Tickets, Bell Ringers, Unit Assessments, and Benchmarks) into the TFAR system.
As a result of their learning, participants will be able to go create STAAR aligned assessment questions ready to use the very next day.
Exploring Strategies to Connect Science and Literacy in the K-3 Classroom
October 25, 2022

Science and literacy instruction do not have to be done in isolation. In fact, the two subjects can be more powerful when combined. In this session, science teachers will learn simple strategies for incorporating reading, writing, oral language and vocabulary into their science lessons.
Topics Include:
- Why incorporating science and literacy is essential for students
- Simple, easy to implement strategies for supporting young scientists with reading, writing, and speaking
- Example activities that you can adjust and implement in your own classroom
Teachers will walk away with knowledge on how to implement strategies and tools to use in the classroom.
