From the Principal's Desk...
Parents and Guardians,
I know that the countdown to summer break has started for many; however, I want to remind students that we still have 10+ days of instruction left. I know this is an exciting time, but I need for students to continue to keep their academics at the top of their priority list. I went through Option C today and we have multiple students who are in jeopardy of failing for 3rd trimester or for the year. High Schools do look at individual trimester grades and having an F on a report card can jeopardize getting into your top high school.
I also wanted to remind parents about the importance of keeping up with Safe Parish bulletins. These bulletins come out four times a year and only take 15 minutes to complete. If you don’t complete the bulletin within 30 days, you are marked as “not compliant.” Any parent who wishes to volunteer at St. John’s MUST be compliant with Safe Parish. Please stay on top of this requirement because it is not fun for us to tell parents they are unable to volunteer at a party.
If you have any questions about either of these two issues, please feel free to contact me during school hours.

Shopping Cent$ Turn -In Thursday
Only two more turn-in days left for Shopping Cent$ - tomorrow, May 12th and next Thursday, May 19th. Please help us finish the year out with strong sales! Remember, your support won't cost you any more than you would normally spend.
Now is a great time to stock up on cards for summer break. Gift cards are great gifts for graduations, weddings and summer birthdays. Heading on a road trip? Grab some Wendy's, Burger King or Cracker Barrel cards for the pit stops. And don't forget Speedway and Shell cards for your gas purchases! Breakfast treats for the kids? Dunkin', Panera and Bob Evans to the rescue.
An order form was sent home in the "youngest" child's Blue Jay folders or can be printed from our school website under the parent info tab. Thanks for your support!

End of Year Principal & Priests Gifts
Please send cash or check donation (payable to St. John the Baptist School) to school in an envelope marked "End of Year Gift" by TUESDAY, MAY 24th. Yearbook Cover Design Winner
Congratulations to Daphne S. whose yearbook cover design was chosen for our 2021-22 St. John's yearbook! This year's theme was to depict our school's 175 year anniversary. Thank you to our other eighth grade students who submitted designs...we have some very talented and creative students!
If you haven't already ordered a 2021-22 yearbook, please click here to place an order. Yearbooks will be distributed in late August at the beginning of our next school year. If you are unsure if you have already ordered, please contact Laura Heidorn in the school office.
Outstanding Fees
In order to avoid having report cards being held and/or academic records being held for transfers/graduates, please pay all outstanding fees including lunches, after care, lost or damaged school books/laptops, and tuition. Eighth grade students will not be permitted to participate in graduation activities if any overdue balances are unpaid.
Please contact our Business Manager, Mrs. Cathy Dreyer, with any questions. She can be reached at 513-385-7970 or cdreyer@stjohnsdrschool.org. Thank you.
Air Pollution Poem
Seventh grade students recently completed projects to demonstrate their understanding of air pollution and air quality. Check out the poem below written by Cooper H.
Air Pollution Poem
Smokestacks, volcanoes, fossil fuel,
Air pollution is just not cool.
Smog and pesticides can harm our environments,
We must work together to reduce these contaminants.
Particulate matter to our health is harmful,
Acid, dust, and chemicals are really awful.
Bronchitis, cancer and asthma attacks,
Tobacco smoke can make your lungs black.
Ground-level ozone and factory smoke,
Chemicals in the air could make you choke.
No one wants to live in a world with pollution
Air quality control can be a solution.

School Spectacular Sponsors
If you or someone you know owns a business and wants to help support St. John the Baptist School, please consider being a sponsor for the St. John’s School Spectacular - “Together We Grow” that will be held on November 5, 2022.
Our sponsorships start at only $500 and all levels include tickets to the event as well as publicity on many different platforms. Your business will be highlighted for a weekend in all three parish bulletins, on signage at the event, on our St. John Spectacular Facebook page and on our online Givesmart auction site. All of these give you the opportunity to reach several thousand people.
Please consider helping our event fill the gap between tuition income and the cost to educate each one of our students. Your support will help make a strong, dynamic Catholic education an option for our parish families. For more information, please contact Mary Beth Salyers at mbsalyers13@gmail.com or Rose Putnick at rputnick@starone.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

A Note From Schoolbelles - Order Early!
"Our Inventory Department placed our yearly orders in the fall of 2021 for delivery in early summer 2022. We have attempted to anticipate our customers' needs the best we can by ordering 20% -30% more units than we sold last year. However, if we over sell or miss our projections, filling back orders will be challenging. I would ask that you help us by letting your parents know how important it is to order early."
**Reminder that the Harrison Avenue Schoolbelles store is temporarily closed for remodeling. Please visit the Taylor Mill, KY location at 5046 Old Taylor Mill Rd, Taylor Mill, KY 41015 or order online.

Athletic Boosters
Golf Team
St. John's Athletics is pleased to offer golf to both boys and girls in 5th-8th grade for the upcoming 2022 fall season. Teams are formed based on initial seeding by playing 2 practice rounds at Robin's Nest from the far tees. Three skill levels are offered and all kids compete. Please have scores submitted no later than June 26th. Final teams and number of matches played will be determined by the number of golfers that sign up. Matches usually start mid July and run through Sept with an end of the year tournament for the top teams and individuals.
Fees for the 2022 season will be $50, plus a $50 family fee that is payable once per year for all sports played. Kids are required to provide their own clubs and balls for practice and play, shirts will be provided and collected at the end of the season. Note: Each participant is responsible for the course and green fees. These range from $8-$10 per round for tryouts and matches. These are payable prior to each round.

Youth Ministry Event
My name is PJ Ehling, and I am the current youth minister at Corpus Christi. As our Family of Parishes comes together this summer, under the guidance of Fr. Pete and Bishop Binzer, I’m holding some youth ministry events that will be open to all youth in our Family, from current grades 6-12 (incoming 7th graders in the fall to graduating seniors).
Our first Family youth ministry event is this Sunday, May 15. It is called Dodgeball Delight—2 hours of all the dodgeball you can imagine! It will be held at St. John the Baptist’s gym from 6:30-8:30pm. Be sure to invite your friends! I hope that we can begin to come together as a community in our new Family youth ministry program and have a lot of fun doing it through dodgeball!
SAVE THE DATES:
- June 24th-26th: Summer Retreat. A great opportunity to dive deeper into your relationship with God and build stronger friendships in our youth ministry!
- Every Wednesday from May 11-June 29: Regular youth ministry meetings at Corpus Christi’s McAlarney Building (Across the parking lot from the Church) from 7:00-8:30pm.
If you ever want to contact me, please feel free to e-mail me or call/text me at 513-284-3154. Know of my prayers for you and your family, and our Family of Parishes as we begin this journey together.
In Christ,
PJ Ehling
