Counselors' Corner

This week in School Counseling Instruction, our Upper Elementary and Erdkinder students have had lessons on change, transitions, and ending the school year in a strong way. Students are writing words of encouragement for students younger than they, as they prepare to be in the next year of their developmental level, or even move on to a new developmental level altogether. We're so thankful to be your students' school counselors, and to be there for them throughout their transitions here at Charles Ellis Montessori Academy!

Camp Aloha is a weekend camp for children who have experienced the death of a loved one, set for the weekend of April 29. Open for children ages 6-17 who have had a death of a loved one recently, Camp Aloha is an excellent opportunity for youth who are grieving.

Visit the School Counseling Website for many resources.

School-Wide Grace & Courtesy Focus

The language for identifying/naming COURAGE in "The Self-Awakened Child" series by Jonathan Wolff:

  • When I make a mistake and I tell the truth about what I did, I am acting with Courage.
  • When I keep trying to learn something that is hard or scary for me to do, I am acting with Courage.
  • When I try a new food or talk to a child in class I did not know before, I am acting with Courage.

Lost & Found

Fifth year students recognized that if the grown-ups at home could see the lost and found items in an organized way - perhaps they could encourage the students to stop by the ramp near the Multi-Purpose Room to gather their lost items.

Visit Ms. Angie's Tech Corner to see the slides created by our 5th year students showing what is currently in Lost & Found and encourage your students to pick up their items!

Ellis Night at the Savannah Bananas

The Ellis PTA is hosting an Ellis night at the Savannah Bananas on May 28th.

Tickets are $20 each and include an all-you-can-eat wristband.

Free Admission

Two of the most popular museums in Savannah, the Jepson Center for the Arts and the Telfair Academy, are now offering free admission to locals on weekends for a limited time.

On Saturdays and Sundays from April 2-Aug. 28, Telfair Museums is waiving admission fees at its two sites on Telfair Square to residents across a six-county region: Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty (Georgia), and Beaufort and Jasper (South Carolina). Parking in downtown Savannah is free on Sundays.

For more information, visit this website.

Upcoming Fundraiser

Ellis will be participating in an "Original Works" fundraiser to raise money to support our faculty in attending national Montessori conferences.

Original Works is a fun program where students create artwork that can then be printed on various products (mugs, shirts, bags, etc) and ordered online via the Original Works website.

Be on the lookout for ordering information coming home soon!
