Message from Principal Masone

Dear Families,

What a lovely week we have had this week culminating in Walking School Bus today at Memorial Park. We had a wonderful crew of students along with our dedicated staff and a great, big pancake breakfast!

Beginning October 11th, we will begin after school care for elementary students at MSES. We had planned to have the YMCA on campus this year and unfortunately, the YMCA was unable to hire enough staff. MSES After School Care will begin October 11th. Find details below.

Conference are right around the corner on October 20 and 21. You will have the option of attending in-person or virtually. Look for more information from your child's teacher.

Health and COVID

We have had no quarantines this week. Please help keep students in school by sending your student to school in a mask and reminding him/her to wear it while indoors.

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please contact the front office at 685-2195. If your child is ill, please also fill out the health form on the District webpage.

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us. Have a great weekend!

Warmly,

Maria

The Return of Walking School Bus

Walking School Bus this morning was an INCREDIBLE success! We had more students there than I've ever seen in my five years here! The kiddos also LOVED the pancakes. A big "thank you" to Paula Faucette, Nutrition Services Director, for making that happen for our kiddos today.

Art at MSES

Arts students have been working hard during their time in art class to create beautiful pieces of art for our annual art fundraiser, Original Works. Next week, your child will be bringing home a packet which will include their artwork and ordering supplies. Some students were unable to finish within our class time together and may need to complete their artwork at home. If you are interested in ordering any products, please return your completed order form, artwork and payment to MSES no later than Friday, October 29th. Products will arrive the week of Dec. 3rd. Thank you as always for supporting the art program at our school. With last year’s profit we were able to buy enough art supplies to put together nearly 100 supply kits for our families that may need supplies at home. Please contact Carrie Dunlap at cdunlap@mssd14.org or our front office if you have any questions or are in need of an art supply kit for your child.

3rd Grade Field Trip to the Zoo!

Third grade went to the Cheyenne Mountain zoo as a culminating activity for their Animals Studies Unit. The students are all studying one animal in depth and some students were able to find their animal at the zoo! All students learned about life cycles of animals and got to see several baby animals putting on a show. Big thanks to all of our parent volunteers that assisted our groups!

Music at MSES

Kindergarten through 5th grade musicians have had a busy fall! While our younger students are working on piano keyboard skills and ukulele, third graders are starting to use their bows with their violins. Fourth and fifth grade students have become acquainted with the basics of drums, bass, guitar, and keys through their Little Kids Rock program, and some have decided to focus on strings, by continuing on with violin or exploring viola, 'cello, or double bass. One fourth grade class has piloted our Brass for Beginners program, using natural horns donated by Can'dAid just before the pandemic began in 2020. It has been a fun start to the school year, and we are enjoying the opportunity to play and be together again!
