Winter Challenge Series

For the Family Series Winter Challenge we had 39 students from elementary and secondary campuses submit video presentations representing 14 campuses. Please head to the Family Series You Tube Channel to see and celebrate our students!

Gifted and Talented Middle School Academy Tours

GT Academy school tours are taking place between February 1 - March 1, 2022. In an effort to stay aligned with the District's COVID protocols, the tours are for students only and students must be signed up through the Sign Up Genius.

Gifted and Talented Mentorship Application Window

The Gifted and Talented Mentorship Application for current GT-identified juniors (class of 2023) is open from Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. All students submitting an application will receive an invitation to an interview in the coming weeks.

GT PAC Parent Symposium

See You This Month! The GT Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) would like to invite you to attend the upcoming GT Parent Symposium. The GT Parent Symposium is designed specifically by GT parents for GT parents. This event will be held virtually on February 23, 24, and 26, 2022. The Symposium will include sessions presented by parents, an update from the GT Department, and a keynote speaker. The keynote speaker is Dr. C. Matthew Fugate, assistant professor at the University of Houston-Downtown. He received his doctorate in Gifted, Creative, and Talented Studies from Purdue University. Dr. Fugate’s keynote address is titled “There are 2E’s in CrEativE: Attention Divergent Hyperactive Giftedness”. He plans to discuss the importance of creativity in education for both the individual and society as a whole.

The GT PAC is asking GT parents to create a short video highlighting helpful tips/advice for parents of newly-identified gifted students. Attached to the newsletter e-mail this month is a flyer with detailed information about this action item. Many of our new families will get so much out of your advice! Thank you for sharing!

PACE Open Forum - February 4, 2022

PACE (Parents for Academic Excellence) invites you to join its open forum session to network with other GT parents, ask questions, and share your thoughts and ideas. Conversation topics will target all levels (elementary, middle, and high school). The event will take place on February 4, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. via Zoom. Please register using this LINK, and you will be sent the Zoom link 24 hours before the event. We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your thoughts.

Campus Gifted and Talented Showcases are approaching!

  • Look for campus showcase information from your child's school in the next few weeks.

  • To stay on track, it is suggested that the student work period end at the end of this month so that students have time to plan for presentations. Campuses will designate the end of the student work period, as each campus is unique.

  • Please check your child's campus GT web page by going to the campus main page. Click the header labeled "Students and Parents," then click on "Gifted and Talented."

GT Learning Plan

Students on the GT Learning Plan Pilot campuses will have their second progress check during the third nine weeks. Reports will be updated in Skyward indicating that this progress check has been completed. Parents can see their child's GT Learning Plan on Skyward at any time.
