Greenhouse Effects
WHAT IS THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT?
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that heats the Earth's surface. When the Sun's energy touches the Earth's atmosphere, some of it is redirected back to space and the leftovers are absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases.
WHAT CAN GREENHOUSE EFFECTS DO
Greenhouse effects are trapping too many gases
We are currently adding more greenhouse gases to our atmosphere, causing an increased greenhouse effect by cars and factories. People are releasing too much carbon dioxide(CO2) from transport and factories. The greenhouse gases include water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. This is a pie graph by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
Greenhouse effects are making the temperature rise
Have you guys realised we always(not everytime) get hot days? And all of you look so red when you finish playing in the heat! All of this is due to the greenhouse effects. It has kept us warm enough to live, but it has increased because of human activity eg. Cars, factories and burning coal, and is continuing to accelerate every minute.
Even slight increases in average global temperatures can have huge effects. Glaciers and ice caps melt faster than normal. They cover about 10% of the world's landmasses. Glaciers and ice caps hold 75% of the world's freshwater. If all of this melted, sea levels would rise by many metres. This is enough to flood many coastal cities.
Scientists say that unless emissions of greenhouse gases are cut, the planet would heat up by a minimum of 4C by 2100.

Greenhouse effects is making it too hot, killing animals
If we feel hot, imagine how much the animals would suffer?!? In 2003 in Scotland, it was the hottest year recorded. Hundreds of adult salmon were killed as the rivers became too hot. Greenhouse effects can cause bushfires and will destroy animals and their habitats.
