Report student absences electronically

In addition to leaving voicemail messages, parents and guardians can now electronically record student absences, including future and/or planned absences. Health practices for in-person school

Here are the health practices we’re expecting of families as students return to school:

· Conduct daily symptom checks at home each morning using Home Screening Tool

· Keep your child home if they or anyone in your household has symptoms of COVID-19.

· Report the following to your child’s school health office or building COVID coordinator:

o Any illnesses

o COVID-19 close contact exposures or illnesses

o Positive COVID cases within the home.

· Be sure your child brings a filled water bottle to school each day.

· Pack an extra mask in your student’s backpack. A ziplock bag labeled “clean” and “used” are great places to store them.

· Please check the phone numbers for parents and emergency contacts in ParentVue so that we are able to contact you promptly in case of injury or illness.

Please remember that the health practices in place prior to our shift to distance learning are still important to help us create a school environment that’s as healthy and safe as possible. This is also a great time to review the Minnesota Department of Health’s Attendance Guide for Families.

Health and Safety Precautions Video for In-Person Learning

Recording #4

Second Step

This month, our school wide theme is problem solving. In our morning announcements we’ll be reminding students to use the Second Step Problem-Solving Steps:

  • S: Say the problem

  • T: Think of solutions

  • E: Explore consequences

  • P: Pick the best solution

As you can see, the first letter of each step spells the word ”step.” Remembering “step” helps students solve problems with each other in safe and respectful ways.

Second Step lessons specifically teach students to use each step and reinforce the message that solutions need to be safe and respectful. You will be receiving Home Links about the steps that describe why solving problems is important and including fun activities to do with your child to help them learn and practice the steps. We hope the steps will be helpful for you and your child when there are problems at home.

Please tell your child’s teacher if you would like more suggestions about how to use the Problem-Solving Steps at home.

If you already have a ParentVUE account, please log in and click the Online Data Verification button in the upper right-hand corner. Complete the updates as requested.

If you don’t yet have a ParentVUE account, first follow the ParentVUE Set Up Instructions, included, here, to create an account. Next, follow the Online Data Verification Directions, here, to log in and complete your enrollment.

You are welcome to log in to your ParentVUE account to verify/update 2020-21 student information for your student(s) at this time. (If you have additional changes or updates that need to be made, once you’ve completed this initial verification, you can do so through your ParentVUE account at any time.) Updates for the upcoming school year MUST be completed immediately so that we are assured we have accurate information as the school year begins.

CDC discourages travel

Mounds View Public Schools is not currently requiring quarantine following travel. However, families considering travel during this school year are encouraged to keep a close eye on guidance from the Center for Disease Control. Given the high level of COVID-19 spread in our communities, any unnecessary travel is highly discouraged. The CDC recommends the following: Think about what you would do if you became ill, need to quarantine, etc. while traveling. People who travel out of state are strongly encouraged to quarantine when they return home. Starting January 26, anyone traveling internationally will need to be tested three days prior to returning to the U.S. and have proof of negative results before boarding a flight.

Did you reply ‘STOP’ to a text message?

Did we send you one-too-many text messages that caused you to reply ‘STOP,’ in frustration? If so, please know that replying ‘STOP’ to a single text message automatically unsubscribes you from receiving all future text messages from any school or District office. Please consider resubscribing so you can receive future emergency notifications, and we’ll do our best to limit our text messages to critically urgent information that is as targeted as possible. To resubscribe, simply call or email any school main office and ask to be resubscribed to all text messages.

Students Can Now Receive Text Alerts

Parents, you can now add your child's cell phone number to ParentVUE so they can receive text messages and robo-calls about school closings, significantly delayed school buses, emergencies and other alerts. To subscribe your student to these occasional urgent messages, read the easy instructions here.
