Newsletter No. 3

For math this week we expanded our understanding of numbers from 6 to 10. We learned how to properly write them, put them in a 10 frame and to order them. We also did a fun art project based on the book 10 Black Dots. Be sure to see this creative work in your child's classroom or in Mrs. Agundez's outdoor display case.

During religion this week we read the story of Noah's Ark. We also learned about Pope Francis' visit to America and attended our first Mass at MJS.

Guidance continues to focus on our emotions. The emotion "anger" was discussed and children were given techniques to help them deal with it.

Language Arts-
The children have gotten a chance to know Golly, the dog who lives in a gas station and loves to sniff. We will introduce a new SUPERKIDS character this week. We have also been working on rhyming and ending sounds in class.

MJS Picture Day is Wednesday, September 30th. Please complete the picture ordering form sent home and return it to school by Wednesday morning, September 30th. Pictures can also be ordered on line through the use of the form.

Mayfield Junior School offers a milk and juice program at a cost of $50.00 per student per year. Parents can sign up for this program HERE through September 30th.

Some students have signed up for the milk and juice program and the other children have expressed interest in signing up for this program as well. Please take the opportunity to order milk or juice for your child with our easy sign-up program found online!

The sixth graders will visit kindergarten on most Friday afternoons and will spend time with their kindergarten partner, reading a book and finding out about kindergarten. The sixth graders will share their love of reading with the kindergartners by bringing books to read each time both groups meet. We will have our second K-Pals session this Friday with the sixth graders!

All parent volunteers need to be at school by 8:30 a.m and please meet in Mrs. Agundez's classroom for instructions and driving directions.
