Welcome Back 2019

It’s so hard to believe that it is almost time to kick-off the 2019-20 school year! Time flies during summer break, and we hope that you have all had the chance to relax and enjoy spending time with your loved ones.

I will continue to keep you informed throughout the year by sharing the McKenzie Monitor emails every Friday; these are weekly informational newsletters sent to all McKenzie families. It is important that you keep your contact information in PowerSchool current in order to receive these updates. Also, please note that everything you need to know for our school is now posted on the front page of our website under the heading "Parents" and then, '"Back to School Information." In addition to important dates and reminders, our website includes letters from each classroom teacher welcoming his/her students and families. Click here to access the Back to School Information on the McKenzie website.

Anthony and I, along with our new front office staff, have been working diligently to prepare McKenzie for the best year yet! We will always strive to make McKenzie a place where you and your children love to be. We believe our students are the VIPs of our school year, so we are rolling out the red carpet, LITERALLY! Be sure to celebrate the red-carpet walk of fame with your child as you enter for the first day of school! As you walk the red-carpet take a moment to reflect on our McKenzie goals. This year we are focused on building community through relationships, mutual trust, and respect.Throughout the past several months, I have had the joy of learning more about McKenzie and the amazing families, students, and educators. With our partnership, I am confident that the 2019-2020 school year will be a huge success!

"Alone, we can do so little; together we can do so much." - Helen Keller

We look forward to partnering with you.

Back to School Information

Don't forget you can access ALL of the important back to school information on McKenzie's website: Click Here!

Snack Policy

As you know, in any given classroom, we have students with a variety of serious, and often life-threatening, food allergies. To ensure a safe learning environment for every student in our schools, we are limiting classroom snacks to fruits and vegetables only. The items brought to school can be cut up and placed in baggies/containers from your home, or be pre-packaged bags of apples, carrots, etc. as we often see sold in bulk. Please avoid those that are packaged with dips or items that require the labeling of contents. We prefer fresh fruits and vegetables. If there is an ingredient list, it really doesn’t follow the guidelines. Thank you, in advance, for supporting our efforts to keep McKenzie School safe for every child.

Friday Early Release Dismissal Reminder

As a reminder, with the start of the 2019-2020 school year, 2:15pm-3:15pm supervision for our Friday Early Dismissal will be offered only to families who meet one of following criteria:

  1. Your child attends the Park District After School Recreation Program and takes the 3:15pm bus from McKenzie School to the Wilmette Park District Recreation Center. In this case, your child is automatically included in after-school childcare on Fridays.
  2. You have a child in grades 1-4 who has a sibling in PM kindergarten. In this case, please call the office if you would like your older child included in after-school childcare so he/she can wait for PM kindergarten to be dismissed.
  3. Your child participates in a Friday After School Park District 3:15pm club at McKenzie School. In this case, the office will receive a list of students who are enrolled in a club from the Park District and those students will automatically be included in childcare during that club's session.

** Feel free to call the office with any questions about after-school care on Fridays

Civics and Safety

The D39 Village Wide PTA Safety & Civics committee produced a fun video to ask children and their parents/caregivers to respect the safety rules and guidelines around the schools. Over the course of the last three to four years, Wilmette Police officers, cross-guards, bus drivers, and PTA representatives gathered stories of incidents that happened at their schools. With input from parents, and children of all ages, this video was created to communicate the most important safety guidelines to keep everyone safe around our schools.
