A Summer Missions Trip
Romania – July 18-28
Because our summer wasn’t going to be busy enough with our daughter Hannah’s wedding (June 28, and we’re thrilled!), 3 weeks after the wedding Kim and I will lead a team of 14 people from our church on a 10-day missions trip to Romania. We’re writing you as we try to put together a circle of friends far and near who will surround us in prayer as we help the team prepare over the next 3 months and especially while we’re in Romania at the end of July. Here are the details…
Background: Doug went to Romania twice in the 90’s with teams from our church. Through those projects we ended up partnering with Cornel & Karen Bucur, missionaries who reach out in Christ’s name to the abandoned (orphans) and outcast (“gypsies”) of that country through Pathway to Joy Ministries.
Our Task: Cornel & Karen have asked us to come lead two Vacation Bible School children’s outreaches – one in the mornings in a gypsy village where the Bucurs have planted a church, and another in the afternoons in an orphanage in the city of Oradea, near the Hungarian border. While we’re there we’ll also have opportunities to witness their work with abandoned babies in a children’s hospital and participate in Sunday services at one or two new gypsy churches. (Read more about the project here.)
Our Team: We’ve already begun the training and team-building process with the 12 others who will be the “hands and feet of Jesus” on this project. It’s a great generational mix of one teen, four 20-somethings, four 30-somethings and “the rest of us”. (We're the old folks on the team.) For most, this will be their first cross-cultural ministry experience, and this has the potential to be life-changing not only for the team but for our whole church as they catch God’s heart for the lost all over the world. That's a prospect that particularly excites us, and it's one area we would appreciate your prayers over these next few months.
Our Partners: Each of us on the team is seeking partners who will surround us in prayer, which is why we're reaching out to you. We would also welcome any financial gifts towards the team cost of the project (about $2800 per person, with the team members already covering about half of that).
Our Timing: The trip itself is July 18-28. The training and preparation and team-building and fundraising have begun, as we’ve met once and have 5 more sessions on the calendar. Half of the funds are due May 1, with the balance to be covered by June 15.

If you'd like to make a tax-deductible gift to help the team, make your check payable to Trinity Bible Church with "Romania" in the memo and mail it to the church at P.O. Box 566, South Sutton, NH 03273.
