Wildcat Roar
NEWS AND INFO FOR WILDCAT STAFF 2.11
This week, please remember to show our students lots of love. Many of them are dealing with extremely traumatic and difficult situations. Let's make sure that our words, tone, actions, and commitment all communicate to our students that we love them. Remember what we have learned through ARC training about triggers and regulation. We have made a commitment to serve students experiencing trauma. To best serve them, we have to be aware of how we can trigger others who have experienced, or are currently experiencing trauma, abuse, or neglect. Some common triggers are:
- Loud and chaotic, including yelling
-
Odors
Violence
Unsafe, less-monitored areas
Conflicts
Gestures, including snatching items from students
Lack of power, voice, or choice
Uncertainty and changes, including the lack of consistent rituals and routines
Physical touch
This week think about how you could possibly trigger a student and what you will do differently this week. The first 3 teachers to respond will win a prize.

This year we would like to commemorate our Black History celebration with a really nice t-shirt designed by Ms. Harris! It's an amazing Black History t-shirt, with a powerful poem written by Ms. Harris on the back! It's super cute, and a great message. You can purchase one for yourself, and maybe even for a well deserving student. Let's show our students and parents that our staff is solid and unified by wearing it on February 28th for the Black History program. Another cool thing is that this t-shirt is also available as a sweat shirt! If you're interested, please see the link below. The deadline for purchasing your shirt is Thursday, February 21st.

Instructional Resource of the Week
Facing History and Ourselves
USE THIS RESOURCE!!!
What is Facing History
This resource is perfect for all of the PBL projects happening around the school!
By integrating the study of history, literature, and human behavior with ethical decision making and innovative teaching strategies, our program enables secondary school teachers to promote students’ historical understanding, critical thinking, and social-emotional learning. As students explore the complexities of history, and make connections to current events, they reflect on the choices they confront today and consider how they can make a difference.
Facing History’s unique approach to pedagogy, classroom resources, professional development, coaching, and support equips teachers with the tools and strategies they need to help students become thoughtful, responsible citizens.
Our collection of educator resources includes a wide range of flexible, multimedia materials, from primary sources and streaming videos to teaching strategies, lesson plans, and full units. Find resources that will support your students' learning, whether you are teaching a complex moment in history or addressing today's breaking news.
