SENATOR DIEGNAN EXPANDS SLOW DOWN MOVE OVER LAW

Senator Patrick Diegnan is honored to sponsor important traffic safety legislation, which adds disabled motorists to New Jersey's current "Slow Down Move Over" law and provides additional protections for emergency personnel. The bill requires drivers approaching a disabled vehicle displaying hazard warning lights or utilizing road flares or reflective triangles to move over to an available lane not adjacent to the disabled vehicle, or slow down to a safe speed. Since 2016, at least 37 state residents have been struck and killed while outside a disabled vehicle including a father of two who was changing a tire along Routes 1 & 9 in Rahway earlier this year.
