June 7, 2023 - Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees Special Workshop Meeting

The Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees held a special workshop meeting on Wednesday, June 7th. Informational items include:
- Portable Update
- Bond Construction Delivery Methods
- Middle School #2 Schematic Designs
- A budget workshop
The meeting had two action items, which include Upgrading wireless access at Jarrell High School and Salary Increases for the 2023 - 24 school year. More information about the pay raises is below.
The next regular school board meeting is on Wednesday, June 21st.
Pay Raises
The Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees Meeting has unanimously approved a 3% salary increase for all employees.
"We deeply appreciate our teachers and staff for their commitment and dedication to our students and families. We see how hard they work. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we thank you and are grateful that we can offer all our staff a three percent pay increase," said Board President Crystal Phalen.
The board discussed the pay raise at a special workshop meeting on Wednesday, June 7th. The pay increase is for the 2023 - 24 school year.
"We see the energy and care our teachers and staff put into making Jarrell ISD a destination district. They work hard to educate the whole child. When students leave Jarrell ISD they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their next chapter. We thank all our staff for their commitment to the Cougar family and for ensuring academic success," said Superintendent Dr. Toni Hicks.

Sharif Mezayek Named Chief of Police for Jarrell ISD
Sharif Mezayek has been selected as Jarrell ISD's Chief of Police. Chief Mezayek will help establish and lead the district's new police department.
"Chief Mezayek is an exceptional law enforcement officer. He has leadership skills, passion, and 29 years of experience in law enforcement. We're thrilled he's joining the Jarrell ISD family to launch the district's police department," said Superintendent Dr. Toni Hicks.
Chief Sharif Mezayek joins Jarrell ISD from Liberty Hill ISD, where he is the school district's Chief of Police. He has led the department since 2019. Before joining a school district police department, he worked at the Williamson County Sheriff's Office for 24 years. His law enforcement background includes Detective, Sergeant, Deputy Sheriff, and School Resource Officer.
"I'm honored to have the opportunity to protect our children. Serving the students, staff, and families of Jarrell ISD is a position that I value and take pride in. My lifetime has been spent protecting and serving our community. I am eager to start and meet our families," Chief Sharif Mezayek said.
Sharif Mezayek is certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Mental Health Officer, School Based Law Enforcement Officer, and Master Law Enforcement Officer. He starts later this month.

Ribbon Cutting
On Wednesday, June 7th, Jarrell ISD held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the athletic and stadium improvements, including installing an elevator, 995 more seats, improved concession stands, tennis courts, lighting, turf for the baseball and softball fields, batting cages, and sidewalks. The improvements are part of the 2021 Bond.

Jarrell Education Foundation Grant Patrol
Watch the Jarrell Education Foundation Grant Patrol surprise this year's grant winners. The foundation gave more than $85,000 to Jarrell ISD teachers and programs. Thank you, JEF, for your support.
Elementary School # 4 Naming Committee
Jarrell ISD is putting together a naming committee for elementary school number four. The school is being built in the Berry Creek area. The neighborhoods are in the southernmost part of the school district's attendance zones. The committee will meet virtually in July and August. If you're interested, please fill out this form.
Free Summer Meals
Children need nutritious meals to learn, grow and thrive — even when school is out. With the Summer Meal Programs, children and teens ages 18 and younger and enrolled students with disabilities up to 21 years old can continue to eat healthy throughout the summer at no cost. We will serve breakfast and lunch.

The Farmers Market at JISD, is the first Saturday of every month. You'll receive fresh produce for free! It's open to anyone at no cost to you!
It is at 508 N 5th St from 9 to 11 am.
