Week of February 1-5, 2016 -TEKS

Persuasive- This week students will be looking at persuasive texts. We will start with things like advertisements, then move on to written forms. We will be looking at techniques used to persuade people and what the elements of a good persuasive writing piece are.

recognize exaggerated, contradictory, or misleading statements in text

consider the difference in techniques used in media (e.g., commercials, documentaries, news)

TEK 5.12A

identify the author's viewpoint or position and explain the basic relationships among ideas (e.g., parallelism, comparison, causality) in the argument

TEK 5.10A

draw conclusions from the information presented by an author and evaluate how well the author's purpose was achieved

February 1-5th, 2016

Monday

- Read for 20 min (30 min. for GT) and fill in yellow Reading Log with parent signature

- Reading Homework Packet - Monday (yellow cover)

" The Sculptor and His Sons" and "Strength in Numbers"

1. Read passages

2. Circle words you don't understand

3. Write "Fiction" or "Non-fiction"

4. Write 1 author's purpose (persuade, inform, entertain, express)

- GT project will be assigned and the due date is extended to Friday Feb.12th!


Tuesday

- Read for 20 min (30 min. for GT) and fill in yellow Reading Log with parent signature

- Reading Homework Packet - Tuesday (yellow cover)

" The Sculptor and His Sons" and "Strength in Numbers"

1. Re-read passages

2. Make a CSPS chart (fiction) or TF3 Chart (nonfiction) **see packet for format**


Wednesday

- Read for 20 min (30 min. for GT) and fill in yellow Reading Log with parent signature

- Reading Homework Packet - Wednesday (yellow cover)

Thursday

- Read for 20 min (30 min. for GT) and fill in yellow Reading Log with parent signature

2. Answer questions

3. Underline where you found your answer and write the question number next to it

4. Write the paragraph number of your answer next to the question

- GT project due date is extended to Friday Feb.12th!


Fri/Sat/Sun

- Read for 20 min (30 for GT) and get a parent signature for each day in planner

Homework = Tech Time

Reading teachers will continue the new reward system for doing homework! The Homework Punch Card will be handed out by reading teachers only. If all homework is correctly completed for each subject, then one punch will be earned per subject. These punches will be given on Fridays by core subject teachers. When 5 punches have been earned, the card can be exchanged for a FREE TECH "MONDAY" pass! That's right...electronics can be used on Mondays as a reward for being awesome students! :)
