It is time to start Reading for the Goats!
THE CHALLENGE: The Cedar Mill Library and Findley PTO are teaming up again to help our students read for a challenge! The challenge is to read up to 9,000 hours as a school goal. For every 1,500 hours we read, The Findley PTO will also sponsor a pair of goats. A donor will also purchase a pair of goats through the Cedar Mill Library if we meet our community goal. The goats are purchased through Mercy Corps, which helps people in some of the poorest, most difficult parts of the world. For millions of impoverished people, livestock can offer a lifeline-but starting a herd is hard. Goats provide nutritious milk and meat, and bring in income that let’s struggling families purchase the goods they need.
WHEN: December 10, 2018 to January 17, 2019. All Reading Records are due January 19th. Two winning classes get to adopt our stuffed goats for the rest of the year!

UNSCHEDULED EARLY DISMISSAL - WHAT’S YOUR PLAN?
During an unscheduled early dismissal, schools will use the emergency closure plan you indicated for your student in enrollment and enrollment verification. During the online process, you were asked to indicate what the student should do in case of emergency or early school closure.
You were only allowed to choose one option. The three options were:
- Pick up by Parent/Emergency Contact/Daycare
- School Bus to Home/Neighbor/Daycare
- Walk/Ride Bike/Drive to Home/Neighbor/Daycare
If you don’t remember what you selected, you can check by logging into ParentVUE and clicking on “Student Info” in the left hand navigation. Your selection will be displayed at the bottom of the page under “Other Data.”
If you wish to change this plan, contact your school or reference the “Online Registration/Enrollments and Verifications Guide.” *Please note, if you choose to update your information online, the information is not updated in the student information system until the school has accepted your verification. This process may take up to two weeks to be completed. The fastest way to update your information is to call the school.
Please make a note of the option you selected and keep the information somewhere handy, in the event of a future early school closure.
SchoolMessenger Parent Contact Adjustments for Attendance Notifications
After feedback from parents and guardians, the District has made some adjustments to attendance notifications. We will no longer automatically call parent work phone numbers for attendance notifications. Your primary, home and cell phone will still receive automatic attendance calls.
If you have a direct work line and would like to continue to receive calls at work, please log in to SchoolMessenger InfoCenter and select your work phone as one of the numbers to call. Please note the system is unable to call extensions. We will also begin uploading all parent email addresses into SchoolMessenger for attendance notifications.
Remember, you can manage their contact preferences in SchoolMessenger InfoCenter at any time.

GIRLS ON THE RUN VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED!
Findley will have a Girls on the Run (GOTR) team this spring and we are in need of 6 volunteer coaches to make the season successful.
GOTR is a nonprofit organization that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. It’s a 10-week curriculum-based program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that combines training for a 5k running event with powerful lessons on confidence, teamwork, relationships, and leadership.
Coaches need to commit to the 10-week season and meeting twice a week for 90 minutes from March-May. You don’t need to be a runner or a competitive athlete! A successful coach only needs to have a desire to positively impact girls’ lives by helping them increase their self-confidence, develop healthy relationships and feel good about themselves. You’ll serve as a role model for girls by showing up prepared and on time, listening attentively, and by demonstrating a positive attitude.
