October 2015 Break Out Session

Let's Discuss...

Health information management (HIM) according to AHIMA, is the practice of acquiring, analyzing and protecting digital and traditional medical information that is vital to providing quality patient care.

For our break out session for October's faculty meeting, please share a summary of a scholarly article related to Health Information, as it relates to your profession. Does this article impact your respective healthcare discipline? Explain.

The Privacy Rule under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 establishes national standards to protect medical records and other personal health information. Although the HIPAA rules provide for preempting state law, it is not a true national standard for patient information privacy. Do you agree? Why or why not?

Please provide a response to either one of the proposed questions and engage in conversation with one or more of your colleagues prior to the end of our meeting.
