Are you reading this newsletter every two weeks? Please every two weeks with the secret code. Each reply will enter you for an opportunity to receive a momento from FSDB! Winner will be chosen at the end of each quarter. So look for the message to send every newsletter. This week's secret code is: I love DMS!

Karen Newton
Assistant Principal
A Note from Principal: Angela Saunders
In 2008 Senate Bill 856 was passed designating the first two weeks of October for “Disability History and Awareness Instruction” in an effort to bring attention to the contributions and opportunities for individuals with disabilities. At FSDB, we are proud to raise awareness of the abilities of all persons as we provide access and equal opportunities for our students as we prepare them to become literate, employable, independent life-long learners.
Consistent with our mission, I love the educational opportunities that we have for our students and the passion of our staff for their learning. For this newsletter, I would love to showcase the work of our High School students as part of their English Language Arts class. They have worked through the writing process to create a student newspaper-“Dragon News”.
It takes a team of educators to provide students with the foundations in literacy from Elementary all the way up through their journey here at FSDB. I love seeing our students take on leadership roles and engagement in their community. Their ownership in the learning and growth process is critical for them to do more, be more, and achieve more.
You can find edition 1 of Dragon News HERE. I look forward to sharing more throughout the year!

The first winners of the McLane Hall House System are the Green Chameleons! The Green Chameleons group made it to 40 points first. They used Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation to earn points and show positive behavior. They will earn a reward for their great work for the month of September.
One group did a baking curriculum with the boys. Staff taught the boys how to prepare and clean cooking surfaces, mix cupcake batter, and bake cupcakes. Boys also decorated and iced the cupcakes. At the end they were able to eat their treats and then cleaned up afterwards.
One group taught how to set goals for the future. Staff talked about how making good choices and creating goals can lead to future success. The students took turns talking about their goals for the future and how they thought that they could achieve them.
Our Gregg Hall girls are beginning to explore different activities in the evening to keep themselves busy. Sewing, drawing, baking, and painting have given the girls some fun during their free time. Staff are introducing different skills to encourage the girls to develop interest in new leisure activities.
Until next time,
Gregg Hall and McLane Hall Family
