Covid Communication During Spring Break
We hope our Edison families are looking forward to Spring Break. Whether you are staying home or traveling we hope you stay safe and healthy. Please continue to reach out to keep us updated about your family's health and notify Mrs. Wiegand if someone in your household tests positive for Covid-19 or if you find out that your child has been exposed to someone who has tested positive. This information will help mitigate the spread and keep our Edison community healthy.
If you plan to travel internationally, please see the CDC guidelines below.
Spring Break begins Friday, April 2 - Friday, April 9th. School resumes on Monday, April 12th.

PTO Fundraiser- Thanks For Your Continued Support!
Our PTO STEAM Engine Fundraiser is in full swing! Thank you to all of the families that sent out emails to friends and family, to help support our school! The fundraiser closes on April 14th.
Congratulations to Julian Miller and Jacob Anderson- our first two mini-fridge winners! We're looking forward to more prize give aways this week!
State Testing Updates
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) submitted a request to USDE to waive the assessment requirements this year due to the pandemic. While we expect that there will still be a requirement to assess students, we are awaiting additional guidance from MDE.
We are planning on administering the assessments beginning in mid-April for the students in the grades listed below. More information, including dates and times for the assessments, will be shared in the coming weeks.
The spring state assessments are required to be given in-person. Our virtual students will need to come into one of our buildings to take their assessments. (More information will follow about this.)
The assessments provide the district with a snapshot of student achievement at the state, district, and building levels. Individual student results will also be shared with parents.

Upcoming International Travel?
If you are planning any international travel during this break or spring break, please review the recent updates from the CDC. It is important to note the CDC states for International Travel: Get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for 7 days after travel.
The CDC reminds us to NOT travel if you were exposed to COVID-19, you are sick, or you have tested positive for COVID-19. Learn when it is safe for you to travel. Don’t travel with someone who is sick.
Health and Safety
We need everyone's assistance and cooperation with keeping our Eagles Community safe, healthy, and learning in the new year.
All families must complete the health screener each morning (also linked above).
Please continue to be vigilant as you assess your child's health each day. Please do not send your child in with ANY symptoms that could indicate more serious illness, even if you believe them to be minor. Seemingly benign symptoms like stuffy noses, headaches, mild coughs, and stomach aches must now be taken more seriously, especially since children are more likely to have "minor" symptoms but can still transmit Covid-19 to others. Students exhibiting any symptoms related to Covid-19 will be sent home. If your child is sent home from school, please pick them up promptly and know that a doctor's note may be required for their return to school.
We need you to help us keep sick kids home from school so we can keep healthy staff and students at school teaching and learning.
If members of your child's household(s) have tested positive for Covid-19, your child has been in direct contact with anybody with Covid-19, or your child has tested positive, please contact our office immediately or email Mrs. Wiegand.
March is Reading Month
Myon automatically tracks reading minutes each week, so no reading log will be necessary this year. However, reading logs are available upon request to those who would prefer them, and they would need to be submitted every Friday with a parent signature.
We Need Noon Aides
Noon-Aides- $9.65/hour: 1.75 hours daily- flexible scheduling; Noon-aides monitor students at lunch recess time, while teachers eat lunch. It's a great way to stay involved in our school while earning some extra money. Apply here and email Mrs. Wiegand, if interested.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Arrival and Dismissal
*Students should not be dropped off for school prior to 8:15AM, as we are not staffed to supervise students before this time.
*Please give buses the "Right of Way" and do not block the bus lane while dropping off your child.
*During curbside drop off, please pull all the way up to the curb, so your child doesn't have to cross into traffic flow lanes.
*No students or adults are allowed to walk between buses during arrival and dismissal. This is a hugely important safety rule that we need to enforce for the sake of all kids.
*Please be patient with one another, despite the congestion in the parking lot. Our kids are watching.
School Property During School Hours
As the weather gets nicer and more conducive to socializing (especially at dismissal time), I wanted to provide the following reminders:
Also, when picking up your students at dismissal time, please plan to stay in your vehicles until all of our PM recesses have ended (approximately 3:15PM). We are unable to allow parents to walk up to the dismissal doors during PM recess, as that jeopardizes the safety/security of our play area.
Breakfast/Lunch Information
The April lunch menu can be accessed here.
Breakfast & lunch are FREE for all students for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. Parents are still asked to complete a Free & Reduced Meal Application, as this information is used for district funding, but it will not determine whether a child qualifies for free meals.
Virtual learners can pickup free meals curbside at Fraser High School from 7am – 12pm, M-F.
Next Virtual Materials Pickup- Friday, April 16
MSTEP Testing For Virtual 3-6 Students
Our plans for administration were designed to keep the environment as safe as possible. Virtual students will be tested in the Idea Lab at Richards Middle School. The Idea Lab has a separate entrance off of Klein Road so students will not be mixing with the other students in the building. Students will be scheduled to test with only their classmates, wear a mask and will be distanced as much as possible in the testing room. Depending on your student’s grade, testing sessions will be either two or three days and take place in the morning or afternoon. All safety protocols and mitigation strategies will be followed.
It is important that we know if your student will be taking the M-STEP assessment on their scheduled days.
Please complete this form, which includes the testing dates for individual teachers, no later than March 29th so we can accurately plan for the test administration.
Virtual Learning Reminders
* Attendance is a key to success in school. Students must connect at 8:35AM and remain connected throughout the duration of the school day.
*Students should keep their cameras on for most of the day, if they're able to. In the virtual environment, teachers love to be able to see their students during instructional time.
*To report absences for virtual learning classes, please call the attendance line at Edison: 586.439.6590
*Please keep your home school apprised of any Covid-19 related illness with students or members of the household.
Our next virtual materials pickup is Friday, March 19th.
