First United Methodist Church Trussville Children's Ministry
Wednesday Night September 27
Wednesday Night Explore Elementary agers are learing about the books of the Bible using some simple hand motions to help them remember book and what it is about. The goal is that by Thanksgiving we'll be able to say all 66 books of the Bible from memory and have a general idea of what each book is about. CHILDREN WILL NEED THEIR BIBLES. We will have a Books of the Bible Challenge. By mid-November children that can recite the Books of the Bible in order by heart will receive a $10 Five Below gift card.
PARENTS OF PRESCHOOLERS AND 5Kers: Cherubs meet at 6 p.m. in the Discovery Classroom. Led by Rachael Cook and Dani Lemaster (5K children will have the option of participating in Cherubs or Bible study upstairs with the older children). Jesus Is Crucified Matthew 27:32-61; Mark 15:21-47; Luke 23:26-56; John 19:17-42
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
After being convicted despite his innocence, Jesus carries his cross up the hill. Soldiers nail Jesus to the cross. Darkness falls on the land for three hours as Jesus hangs on the cross. When he dies, it causes an earthquake. Jesus did all of this to take our punishment. Jesus loves us so much that he died for us.
Family Time
Try this fun experiment as a family. Make sure an adult handles all the chemicals.
- Fill three glasses halfway: one with water, one with iodine, and one with bleach.
- Imagine that the water is us. Pour some iodine into the water to represent how sin makes us dirty.
- Add some more water. Talk about ways people try to get rid of their own sin.
- Add bleach. Talk about how Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins.
- Pour the iodine into the bleach to show how Jesus took on everyone’s sins but remained perfect.
- Thank Jesus for forgiving our sins.
Talk About This…What’s something people can do that’s a good way to show you love?
