News From Mrs. Wegman's Room
May 7th, 2018
Thank you!
Thank you for all of the yummy treats, goodies, cards, and nice notes for Teacher Appreciation Week! I feel so fortunate to teach at Hoover and be a part of the Hoover community! This will likely be my last formal newsletter of the school year, but I will be sure to email if the need arises. Thank you, thank you for such a wonderful year with your students!
Language Arts
This week in language arts we are comparing different versions of Cinderella. We will NOT have spelling this week and therefore our LAST spelling test will be next Friday, May 18th. Next week we will read our last story Now and Ben about Ben Franklin's life and compare and contrast how things are different now and then. Our spelling words will be different spellings for long o (oa/ow) and long e (ee/ea). We will also talk about prepositions and review using a dictionary. Our last full week we will do some reader's theaters as well as some other fun end of the year reading and writing activities!
Math
In math we will finish up our topic on geometry and our topic on graphs as well as take our end of the year math assessment. We will keep plenty busy in these last few weeks of school!
Science
Our caterpillars have arrived and we are excited about watching them go through their life cycle! We have some seedpods on our brassica plants and have stopped watering them in hopes that we will be able to harvest some seeds before the end of the year. We also had silkworms arrive and will watch as much of their life cycle as we can as time winds down!
Social Studies
We have three lessons left in social studies. We will learn about community leaders by having an election, predict what community leaders can and cannot do, and identify a community problem and propose a solution. In the next lesson we will identify ways to be good citizens and decide whether specific actions are those of a good citizen. In our last lesson we will learn about how communities in the United States are connected by identifying how communities share to meet their economic needs and wants.
