Mrs. Millstein's Weekly Update!
October 14th - October 18th
What we did this week:
- We focused on the sight words: home, them, into, many.
- We reviewed the short u vowel sound.
- We focused on final consonant blends.
- We learned how to use a new tool on our iPads called Instant Alpha. We took a picture and put it into another picture by erasing the existing background.
- We wrote stories about our stuffed animals in writing workshop.
- We worked in math on turn around facts. We learned that if 4+3=7 then 3+4=7. We are really starting to increase our fact fluency.
- We started a new Stemscope on animal survival. We learned that animals use their sense of smell to find food to survive. We smelled different mystery smells to see if our senses can tell us if the food is good or dangerous to eat.
What will we do next week:
- Next weeks sight words: catch, put, good, said, no, want
- In reading we will be discussing nouns, animal fantasy and sequencing events in a story.
- In writing we will be discussing and composing a friendly letter.
- In Math we will continue to learn strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.
- In Stemscopes we will be learning about how animals take care of their young.
Stemscopes this week!
We used our sense of smell to investigate if smell can help us decide if the mystery container is safe to eat. This ties into our Stemscopes where we are learning about animal survival.
Environmental Education with Ms. Lynch!
Ms. Lynch did such a wonderful lesson today in Environmental Education that I had to share! The students are learning about soil layers and completed a Seesaw activity. At home they can use the Seesaw activity to explain to you the soil layers, its amazing how much they know! They got to see the compost bucket from outside that 4th grade is taking care of and see all of the wiggly worms! I'm sure they'll tell you their favorite part was using yummy pudding, Oreo crumbs, gummy worms and more to create their "soil layers"! Thank you Ms. Lynch for making our Friday so fun!!
We loved having Miss Reynolds in our class! She read "Spookley the Square Pumpkin"!
Important information regarding the weekly Reading A to Z!
Every Friday the students buddy read their weekly book to each other. They do such a great job being respectful and listening to each other!
Starting next week 1st grade teachers will be UPLOADING the students weekly books into their Seesaw. This enables you to view the story at home and also helps saves some trees! They should still be reading their books to you on Thursdays and instead of the Reading Log please comment under the book after they have read it to you! Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
