Future Party Information

On February 14, teachers will be taking time to celebrate kindness and friendship in their classrooms. Last March, a staff committee decided that in order to maintain equity and to avoid candy that may be unsafe for some students being sent to school, this day will not involve passing out Valentines that are sent from home. We ask that families do not send Valentine cards, boxes, or candies to school. We will still have two parties this year; the second will now be in spring (March 17, see PTA notes for sign up!) instead of in February.

Congratulations to Our Recent Superstars!

North Kansas City Schools will continue to implement our Portrait of a Graduate initiative this year. This program is designed to teach students different life skills that they can use to be successful.

Portrait of a Graduate Competencies: February = Communication!

During the month of February, Nashua Elementary will be focusing on Communication as a part of the district’s Portrait of a Graduate program. Communication is demonstrated by expressing thoughts and ideas in a variety of ways. Communication also focuses on students being able to share and exchange their ideas in a variety of settings. Nashua will encourage communication by teaching classroom lessons, recognizing appropriate communication, and setting individual goals.

Microschools has been busy since the beginning of January studying the 10 World Problems according to the UN. From there students have been digging into learning about poverty, hunger, and homelessness in the Nashua Community and Kansas City. During the week of February 6th we will be having a SOUPER BOWL to collect foods for several pantries in the KC area. We are asking families to donate what they can to Nashua. We have added a most needed items list below. Nashua is competing against an elementary school in Philadelphia for who can bring in the most food! See this link for more information!

Dental Health Assembly

We are pleased to offer a dental health assembly on February 10th for all Kindergarten through 3rd grade students.

Land of Smiles is an engaging children’s educational program that teaches students in pre-kindergarten through third grade the importance of good oral health habits. Tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease. To help combat the prevalence of tooth decay among students, “Land of Smiles” travels throughout the state, reaching thousands of children each year.

During this interactive show, characters Captain Super Grin, Terri Tooth Fairy and Toothpick along with Caz Cavity explain good oral health care techniques, good and bad foods for the teeth, and why it is important to visit the dentist.

National School Counselor Week

National School Counseling Week 2023 (Feb. 6-10), sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the essential contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and the tremendous impact they have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Take a moment to thank our school counselor, Mrs. Adams. School counselors help students in more ways than you may know. This week we celebrate them as a part of National School Counseling Week 2023. Student Arrival- Important!

There is no student supervision before 9am on regular school mornings, and before 9:45am on Late Start Thursday mornings. Please do not drop your child off by car in front of the building. If your child will arrive at school by car, please follow our drop-off procedure for car riders. If your child is a walker, please ensure that the time they leave home does not have them arriving at school before our doors open. This is critical for student safety, to ensure that they are not waiting unsupervised, and is also important when the weather becomes colder so that students aren’t waiting outside for extended periods of time.

Parent Resource Center

Hello! My name is Meghan Shipley, School Community Resource Specialist. My main role at Nashua is to help families get connected to resources and outside agencies throughout the Kansas City area. If your family is in need of clothing, food, shelter, or other needs, please click on the link. It is a simple way to mark what you need and I will be able to reach out and offer services. This form will be left up all year long. Feel free to utilize this tool anytime you may be in need!

Café Announcements: Al a Carte (Repeated)

Al a carte (snacks) is now open for all grade levels to purchase at lunch. Some students REALLY enjoy purchasing snacks. If they have money on their lunch account, they are able to purchase snacks without limit (to an extent). That being said, if you would like to limit or block these purchases there are 2 ways to do so. 1) Email Jodi the café manager at or 2) Fill out the form provided and return to Jodi so she may note your students account. For example to limit your students account, have your student pick a day(s) that they are allowed snacks, and/or how many if you like. You can choose to limit it to only a certain amount (1,2,3) per day. Also keep in mind Ms. Jodi will allow students to purchase the day before or after if their day falls on a holiday or snow day unless directed otherwise. If you are sending money to school with your student please make sure they take it to the café before the start of lunch. Any money turned in during lunch will be added to their account for the next day. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jodi at 816-321-5164.

If you would like to restrict your student from purchasing "doubles" (a second meal) please inform Ms. Jodi via phone, email or indicate that on the snack form.

Perfect Attendance (Repeated)

We are so excited to see our Stars each and every day, which is why we are excited to reward students with perfect attendance! Perfect attendance means being in class every second of every day with no tardy slips issued. Each month, perfect attendance stars will receive some type of small reward, such as a sticker, pencil, extra recess time, or dance party. We understand if there are occasions during which your student will not be able to attend school due to illness. Students will be able to enjoy rewards each month for the remainder of the year, should they maintain perfect attendance for each of the other months. We are beginning this incentive in September, with attendance being tracked for this purpose beginning tomorrow (September 1). Our first reward will be an extra 15 minutes of recess on October 3rd. Medical notes, late arrivals and early sign outs, while sometimes necessary, will disqualify students from perfect attendance.

Reminders about Car Rider Drop-off (Repeated)

  • Please ensure that your students are prepared to get out of the vehicle before you pull up to stop (ready to get out with backpacks, water bottles, etc.)
  • If your child is reluctant to exit the vehicle, or if they are unprepared to exit the vehicle for any reason, please pull forward and to the left side while you resolve the issue, so that the line can continue to progress
  • For safety reasons, students should exit the car on the passenger side.
  • To avoid your child receiving a tardy and impacting their attendance, please attempt to complete drop-off before 9:12

Picking Students Up Late (Repeated)

If your child did not get picked up on time from the car rider line and they are waiting in the office, please pull into the bus loop, park your car, and come inside to sign your child out in the office. Thank you!

Car Rider Line Procedure (Repeated)

To ensure safety and fair, quick car rider procedures during arrival and dismissal, we ask that all families adhere to the car rider procedure on the map below.

Car riders will access their line from the westbound lane of 114th street by way of McGee street. The NKC buses will access the bus loop by driving eastbound on 114th street.

In addition, if you are lining up early for dismissal, we ask that you not block driveways and mailboxes along 114th street or McGee street.

Thank you so much for your cooperation, as this helps for a smoother dismissal for everyone.
