2024-2025 School Year Calendars Now Available
The West Bend School Board approved the 2024-2025 WBSD School Year calendar earlier this month. The Early Learning 2024-2025 School Year calendar is also complete. Please see the new calendars on the website.
First Community Conversations on Facilities
Help the West Bend School District assess the needs and opportunities of its buildings and grounds by giving feedback on priorities for the future of the WBSD school buildings and grounds.

7th Annual Black History Month Celebration
Students and families are invited to the 7th Annual Black History Month Program on Friday, February 23. This is a free program that includes refreshments and amazing raffle prizes. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 at the West Bend High Schools Silver Lining Arts Center.
Staff Shares Student Engagement and Behavior Update
- 95.31% of all WBSD students have 0-1 major behavioral referrals (first semester 23-24)
- 3.4% of all WBSD students have 2-5 major behavioral referrals (first semester 23-24)

March 13 is Next Mental Health Seminar
The topic of the next mental health seminar by the WBSD Student Service Department is Coping Strategies, Hope, and Resilience. The session will include a variety of techniques and skills that can be used to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and overall adversity. We will also talk about the importance of building hope, purpose, and resilience in children, teens, and Click here to register for Session 4
Nominate a Deserving Staff Member
March 8 is the deadline for nominating a deserving teacher for the Rolfs Educational Foundation Award and support staff member for the West Bend School District Support Employee of the Year Award. West Bend School District staff, community members, and students can nominate a teacher or staff member for an award to recognize their outstanding contribution to their school. Champion of Change Award by Volunteer Center
The Volunteer Center of Washington County is accepting nominations for a variety of awards for its Champion of Change event to celebrate volunteers. They are seeking West Bend student(s) to be recognized for the Rising Star award which “recognizes an individual or group, 21 and younger, whose discovery of volunteerism and commitment to the community has inspired others.” You may want to nominate a West Bend Schools student or student club! Nominate at volunteernow.net/champions. Nominations are due on February 29.
School Board News
Policy Committee, School Board Meeting, and Curriculum Committee Recaps
The members of the West Bend School Board have held three meetings recently.
- The Policy Committee met on February 13 and covered Policy 165.2 Nepotism (Board), Policy 533.2 Nepotism (Employee, currently numbered as 511.1), Policy 870 Public Complaints, Policy 872 Citizen Complaints, Policy Requiring Renumbering (Former 188 to 119) High School Configuration Review Process, and Policy 887 Relations with Tax Incremental Finance. The committee also discussed a proposed cycle of policy review. Review the video of the meeting.
- The full school board held a regular meeting on February 19. The board recognized the East and West dance teams for qualifying for state. The reports given included the School Report: High Schools and Badger, Student Engagement and Behavior, Superintendent's, and Policy Committee. The board discussed Book Club Selections, Budget and Financial Planning Information, and Policies for First Reading. Finally, the board took action on New Course Proposal: Firefighter 1/Hazmat. - The Curriculum Committee of the board met on February 20. The committee discussed Immigrant Children and Youth Grant 2023-24, Summary of Staff Survey Results Regarding the Book Club Vetting Process, Winter 2024 and Discussion Regarding Recommendations, and also the Summary of Parent/Guardian Survey Results Regarding Book Clubs, Winter 2024 and Discussion Regarding Recommendations. Girls Snowboarding Team Gets 2nd at State
The co-op snowboarding teams once again showed their talent at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Alpine Racing Association Championships this past weekend with the East/West girls team taking second place! Individual results include:
Boardercross: Briana Schauble 2nd, Chloe Rummel 3rd, Francesca Anderson 8th, Brooklyn Phillips 9th.
Giant Slalom: Chloe Rummel 5th, Briana Schauble 8th, Francesca Anderson 11th, Brooklyn Phillips 17th, and Addison Turecek 20th.
Slalom: Chloe Rummel 14th, Briana Schauble 6th, Francesca Anderson 10th, Brooklyn Phillips 16th.
For the boys, Gavin Schauble was 3rd and Max Dahlberg was 16th in boardercross.

Swimming and Diving Perform Well at State
It was a very successful WIAA State Championship for the boys co-op swimming and diving team. Overall, the team placed 10th. Congratulations to the following swimmers:
200 Medley Relay - Drew Gundrum, Weston Keppert, Dawson Walters, Wesley Aleithe took 5th
100 Butterfly - Dawson Walters took 5th
100 Backstroke - Drew Gundrum took 6th
200 Freestyle - Dawson Walters took 8th
200 Individual Medley - Drew Gundrum 11th and Weston Kepert 12th
400 Freestyle Relay - Wesley Aleithe, Weston Keppert, Drew Gundrum, Dawson Walters took 10th.
In their first year diving, Joel Walter took 10th and Frankie Schatz 16th at the state meet.
East and West will be Represented at WIAA State Wrestling
The WIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships taking place at the Kohl Center at UW-Madison this week will feature six West Bend wrestlers. Connor Mirasola, Cole Mirasola, and Ethan Bast qualified for West, and Caleb Hillshafer, Liam Pionkowski, and Carter Henschel qualified for East. Congratulations and good luck to these talented wrestlers!
Charity Week Helps the Community
In total, $65,250 was raised during Charity Week at East and West for the following charities: Make a Wish Foundation, The Threshold, The Volunteer Center, Habitat for Humanity of Washington and Dodge Counties, Old Glory and Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, and Kettle Moraine YMCA.
At the Charity Dance, 750 students attended the dance, making a difference in the community by raising money for the Kettle Moraine YMCA. A new feature of the dance was the Charity Dance Court. More than 100 students were nominated by high school staff members for the court and all the students then voted for the court. The court included:

Senior Reps: Natalie Nass and Logan Roecker
Junior Reps: Lily Inkmann and Teddy Danaher
Sophomore Reps: Violet Zier and Mason Braatz
Freshman Reps: Ella Dietzler and Chase Lauters

2nd Annual All Around the Bend Business Showcase Returns to the West Bend High Schools
The second annual All Around the Bend Business Showcase is on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Bend High Schools Fieldhouse. This event, hosted by the West Bend Area Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the West Bend School District, is free and will feature a bustling exhibit floor where attendees can engage face-to-face with local businesses and organizations. Visitors will have the chance to explore unique products and services, learn about volunteer and employment opportunities, or even purchase a special gift from one of the local pop-up shops.
