CONGRATULATIONS to our teachers, staff, students, and community for receiving the ranking of #1 BEST PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY!! We are SO PROUD of the hard work that goes on each day at Deretchin!

Big picture

Deretchin Elementary received notice that we have been named a MODEL PLC school. Deretchin is one of 27 schools to receive this honor in the state of Texas. Becoming a Model Professional Learning Community campus is a HUGE honor for our Teachers, staff, students, and community. In order to receive this recognition, schools must submit evidence of the following:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Professional Learning Community concepts.
  • Implement those concepts for at least three years.
  • Present clear evidence of improved student learning.
  • Explain the culture, practices, and structures of the school or district, and submit it for consideration to the Professional Learning Community Review Committee using our online submission process.

A Professional Learning Community is a school that has a focus on learning, relies on collaborative teams for success, and is results oriented. Teachers plan together using the following 4 guiding questions:

1. What is it that we want the students to learn?

2. How will we know if they can do it?

3. How will we respond if they do not show evidence of learning?

4. How will we respond if a child masters the curriculum early?

The following are essential to a successful Professional Learning Community:

1. Shared mission, vision, values, goals

2. Collaborative teams

3. Collective Inquiry

4. Action orientation and risk taking

5. Commitment to continuous improvement

6. Results oriented

Thank you for your support as we continue to build a school that focuses on all children reaching high levels of success.

Teachers are responsible for collecting grades as follows for the 9 week grading period for the report cards. Our goal is to collect half of the grades at the progress report time, however, the first nine weeks is pushed back slightly due to the need to implement procedures at the beginning of the school year.

Annonymous Alerts

Big picture

Our campus will be utilizing the Anonymous Alerts app designed to allow students, or anyone, inform our campus administration of any safety concern during the 2019-2020 school year. This app will allow any completely anonymous upstander and an administrator to engage in completely anonymous two-way confidential ongoing communication regarding an issue. The app can be downloaded either at the Google Play store for Android or Apple store for iOS.

Note the important following information to use when utilizing the app:

· Login/Password– conroeisd

For a complete overview of Anonymous Alerts and how it works, please view the following video on YouTube-

Please be aware 1-888-KIDCHAT will still be available. Anonymous Alerts is preferable as the app allows two-way anonymous exchange of tip information.

Lastly, we will reiterate to students constantly the importance and availability to come directly to an administrator with any concerns. Your assistance in reiterating this is much appreciated.

We are asking that ALL parents attend our Parent Information Night this school year! As our curriculum is changing and our systems reflect ways that we can communicate with you throughout the school year, we want you to know that this night will be DIFFERENT than it has been in the past. Teachers will be sharing important information on how you can best support your child throughout Deretchin Elementary. Please MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!! You won't want to miss your child's night!
