Week of Dec. 14 and Jan. 4

This week students completed their first published story. They were able to follow the various steps in this process (brainstorming, organizing thoughts, first draft, peer conference, adult conference, and publishing). Please check out our personal narratives outside our room. Also in literacy, we

In math, we are continuing with measurement and graphing. This week, we focused on finding the perimeter and area of figures. Please ask your child what the difference is between these two and how to calculate both of them. These are both concepts that tend to come up on the MAP test and the MCA in the spring. We will continue to revisits these concepts as the year goes on.

Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award Nominees

We are once again participating in the Minnesota Book awards this year! The nominated titles are listed below, please note grade/division level. Multiple books are in each division. Every student who reads(or is read to) at least 3 of the books in their division will have the opportunity to vote in March for their favorite. If they have already read some of the books in their division that counts too! It is fun to see if our FH favorite is chosen as a winner! Each student can only have one of the titles out at a time, I am told there are eBook copies available in Mackin via also. Most of these copies are available in our library.

The children's choice book award is sponsored by Minnesota Youth Reading Awards organization (MYRA) and it is unique in that students across the state are the deciders as to which author receives this very special award.
