A GREAT START TO THE YEAR
Filled with fresh starts, new goals, and possibilities.....the first few days of school are always exciting. But here in the Clinton School District, we take them to a whole new level!
On Wednesday, August 23rd, students across the district received a warm welcome from Bright Futures Clinton volunteers. Thank you to our community partners, United Methodist Church, Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, Hawthorn Bank, and Compass Health Network, for welcoming students with high fives, smiles, words of encouragement, sidewalk chalk and more as they returned to school for the 23-24 school year.
Check out these pictures to see all the fun that was had the first few days of school.
PERFECTING COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK SKILLS
The district's first-ever Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class welcomed its first cohort of students last month.
One of the most important skills an EMT must possess is the ability to communicate and work together with those around them. During the first week of school, students had fun with a team building activity that really tested their ability to communicate with their peers. During this fun activity students worked in groups in which the last person in their line was the only one who knew what an original picture looked like. They had to use non-verbal and verbal communication skills to try and explain how to draw the image.
This class, taught by Megan Weiss, will allow eligible students to take exams in the spring to earn their EMT certification. Credit for the EMT program can be articulated to several community colleges as well as fulfills the requirements to start Paramedic school.

PLAY-DOH FUN
One of the best things about preschool is play-doh!
On day one, students in Mr. Kendal's Clinton Early Childhood Center class learned about the importance of washing their hands to prevent the spread of germs when playing with certain things in the room...one of which is play-doh! After perfecting their handwashing skills, students enjoyed using play-doh to make shapes and squiggles with their friends.
Play-doh is a great tool that can be used to strengthen little hands and prepare those muscles for scissor and writing exercises.

READY TO CLIMB TO NEW HEIGHTS
Thanks to a true community effort, Clinton Intermediate School has a new rock wall!
Last spring, Physical Education teacher, Gina Johannsen applied for and was awarded a Cash for Classrooms Grant from Casey's. This $6,176 grant was used to purchase a rock wall. Over the summer, this wall was shipped to CIS, and employees from Hawthorn Bank and Austin Construction and Concrete LLC recently spent their time and talent installing the wall in the CIS gym. The students are so excited to use the wall for a variety of fitness-related activities!
CIS would like to thank Kristi Austin, Tiffany Patterson, Jared Goodbrake, Dave Garnett, and Jason Austin for all of their help.

THE LOOK OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
Just look at this proud smile! Students in Mrs. Potter’s class had fun recently creating torn paper projects.
Not only did students have fun creating, but they were strengthening the muscles in their hands with this fine motor project. Students worked muscles that are essential for things such as writing, cutting, zipping, and buttoning!

CONNECTIONS FOR SUCCESS
One of the core values in the CSD is relationships. We strive to ensure that each student and staff member is connected to at least one caring adult at school who encourages them on a regular basis.
Last week, Clinton Intermediate School kicked-off their second year of using House Systems to build connections and pride among students and staff.
House Systems is a dynamic, exciting, and proven way to create a positive climate and culture for students and staff. It’s all about team spirit, some friendly competition, and building the positive qualities we all want to see in children and adults. Each house is characterized by the words: Courage, Wisdom, Success, Friendship, Giving, and Kindness.
Students are divided into five different groups ("houses"), and within each large group there are smaller groups (just like the school's previous "Caring Adult Program"). Small groups meet once a month to do fun activities and build relationships among students and their group leader.
The different groups compete against each other during the year by earning points. Points are earned by following the school's PBIS expectations of being responsible, respectful, and safe.
Students are loving the sense of community and pride that the House Systems approach brings to the school. And of course, everyone is loving the competition piece! Students are really challenging themselves to do their best and earn points for their team.

CLINTON SCHOOL DISTRICT TRANSFERS SPONSORSHIP OF PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM
State Fair Community College - Clinton (SFCC-Clinton) will assume sponsorship of Clinton Technical School’s Practical Nursing program, effective January of 2024, after this year’s cohort of students graduates.
Representatives from the Clinton School District and State Fair Community College have worked collaboratively to make this transition as smooth as possible for those in the area who wish to begin or continue their education in nursing. Not only does this transfer of sponsorship ensure that a Practical Nursing program continues to be available in the Clinton community, it also allows students to seamlessly transition to State Fair Community College’s advanced nursing programs.
Tara Weber, SFCC Year 1 Program Director said, “Clinton and its surrounding communities have been tremendous supporters of SFCC. We are fortunate to have a great partnership with the Clinton School District, including their PN program. Retaining a PN program in the Clinton area was the goal for everyone involved. We look forward to continuing this program, providing opportunity and meeting workforce needs, with the #1 Nursing program in Missouri.”
SFCC’s Year 1 Practical Nursing students are able to move directly into the Year 2 Associates Degree in Nursing (RN). The Year 2 program began at the SFCC-Clinton Campus in 2019, providing a local pathway to RN for licensed Practical Nurses and licensed Paramedics.
“It has been a pleasure working with SFCC-Clinton over the past few months,” says Melissa Batusic, Director of Clinton Technical School. “The Clinton School District believes that this program is vital to our community, and that it can be better supported under the adult education that SFCC-Clinton provides.”
For more information on SFCC’s Health Science programs, including Nursing, contact Dara Bigler, SFCC Clinton Campus Director at 660-383-1600.

If your Henry Elementary or Clinton Intermediate School child is interested in participating, you can drop them off between 7:15-7:45 on October 4th at Equity Bank (7th and Ohio). Staff and volunteers will walk with small groups of students, so that they can learn how to use crosswalks and crossing guards on their way to school.
CLASSROOM PARTNERS
Are you interested in making a difference in our students' lives? Would you like to meet some great kids and staff members?
The Bright Futures Clinton Classroom Partnership program is looking for 15 businesses, organizations, churches, etc. in our community to partner with classrooms at Clinton Early Childhood Center, Henry Elementary School, and Clinton Intermediate School.
There is NO financial commitment to becoming a classroom partner. Partners are only asked to donate at least an hour of their time every month supporting the students and teacher of their partnered class. It's a great way to show the students and staff of the CSD that you support them!
