Peek At Our Week
September 25, 2015
It is hard to believe that September is almost over! We have been working hard here in kindergarten, becoming comfortable in our routines and around our big school! As the weather begins to get cooler, please send your child to school with a light jacket in the mornings that can be easily folded into their backpacks in the afternoon. This will help make our afternoon pack up routine much easier!
We continued launching our Writer’s Workshop program by discussing different things writers can write about. We made a list to remind us when generating ideas for our stories we can write about places we like, our family and friends, toys and special memories. We started our Reader’s Workshop program too, by looking at the books we are going to be learning from, and talked about how books help us learn, and the types of books we like to read. We also had two more Technology lessons with Mrs. Miller! We learned about typing and even got to use laptops to practice with a partner!
During our centers this week we started working in six groups instead of four. This means we will now have two teacher directed centers and four independent centers. In our independent centers this week we started reading books on Raz-Kids.com using our computers, we continued working on letter recognition with alphabet puzzles, forming letters with Play Doh and doing letter sort activities. With Mrs. Seals we worked our fine motor skills by pinching tiny pieces of tissue paper to trace the letters in our names, and we painted beautiful fall trees using our handprints and fingerprints. With Miss Coyle we made owls and wrote something about ourselves on each wing, and hid a special surprise underneath the owl. We can’t wait for you to see them on Back to School Night!
During math we continued learning about the square and triangle and reviewed what we already know about the circle. We learned the words curve, side and vertex! In centers we worked on our number sense with unifix cubes and number flash cards, practiced identifying shapes with pattern blocks, sorted objects with sorting circles, and practiced patterning. We also had a special visit from one of our math teachers, Mrs. McLaughlin and practiced counting with her, too!
· - Back to School Night is next Wednesday, September 30th at 7:00pm
