Our Drama Club Presents: Curtains, March 27th-29th
Our Drama Club proudly presents 'Curtains,' a murder-mystery musical comedy whodunit. When the terrible leading lady of an even worse, new Broadway-bound musical mysteriously drops dead on Opening Night, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi arrives on the scene to solve the crime (and save the show!). With the suspense and plot twists of an Agatha Christie novel, the screwball antics of an 'I Love Lucy' episode, and a musical score from the creators of the hit musicals 'Chicago' and 'Cabaret,' 'Curtains' is not to be missed!
Senior Dominic Petrucci stars as Lieutenant Frank Cioffi with key suspects: Bossy producer Carmen (junior Hannah Van Scoy), flippant director Christopher Belling (senior Rocco Olivieri), feuding composer Aaron (senior Alex Beenhouwer) and lyricist Georgia (senior Hope Worcester), naive ingenue Niki (sophomore Kat Harms), vengeful chorine Bambi (sophomore Olivia Davis), and lovesick choreographer Bobby (sophomore Nathan Clarcq). Rounding out the list of suspects are seniors Ariel Gaziano, Logan Muha; juniors Ashlyn Bolte-Pauley, Angelina Cantatore, Rosetta Famellette; sophomores Ethan Kuntz and Erica Levandoski; freshmen Gabrielle Brice, Maria D'Agostino, Josie LaDuke, Victoria Rivera, and Molly Tichacek.
The student crew includes Bryan Espinal, Shawn Foglia, Lillian Freeman, Morgan Gardner, Sam Gaziano, Nicole Jerzak, Monica Krym, Angie Marra, Abby Parulski, Ian Poulsen, Marissa Rivera, Matthew Rothwell, Katarina Rutman, Courtney Sicker, CJ Springer and Alex Stratton. Students who are performing in the pit crew include Emma Guthrie, Savannah Harding, Isabelle Keovongxay, Katie McGarvey and Maria Melnik. The High School Drama Club's 2020 production has vocal direction by Mr. Jed Kovalovsky, pit direction by Mrs. Kate Logan, and technical direction by Mrs. Regina Swartout. Club adviser Greg Maddock serves as director and choreographer.
Performances are March 27 & 28 at 7:30pm, March 29 at 2:00pm, at Susan H. Alexander Performing Arts Center at Ruben A. Cirillo High School. Tickets are $8 Adults, $7 Students and Seniors. Run time: 2 hrs 30 min. Rated: PG-13 for mild language and dark comedy.
The Human Rights Club is selling Pura Vida bracelets again this year for $5 each.

All-County Band
Gananda students participated in the Wayne County Music Educators Association All-county Band auditions in February. Each student had to memorize scales, perform two prepared excerpts on their instrument and perform a short section of sight-reading. The students perform in front of a trained adjudicator that rates the students on seven different categories. It takes a great deal of courage, hard work and determination to participate in this event.
Highlights of the accomplishments of our students include:
- 6 students earning the top seat on their instrument
- 2 perfect scores (only 4 perfect scores were earned by students at the audition today total)
- 10 students finishing in the top 3 on their instrument in the county (One student, Emma Guthrie, finished top on 2 different instruments)
- 18 students selected which is the 2nd highest total from Gananda in the past 18 years and possibly ever (I only have records for the past 18 years)
Congratulations to the following students who earned a spot in this year's WCMEA All-County Band to be held March 13th-14th at Lyons High School:
Sr. High All-County Band Members:
- Emma Guthrie - 1st Flute, 1st Seat (1st Overall on both flute and piccolo)
- Ian Poulsen - 1st Clarinet, 2nd Seat (2nd Overall)
- Tierney Kelley - 2nd Clarinet, 5th Seat (9th Overall)

- Erin Weill - 2nd Trumpet, 1st Seat (5th Overall)
- Savannah Harding - 2nd Trumpet, 2nd Seat (6th Overall)

If you see any of these students please congratulate them on their hard work and efforts!
Sincerely,
