Success Criteria
Just as adults like to know what is expected, students need to know what is expected of them and WHAT that looks like. The following exemplars of learning targets have success criteria to show what a student needs to know to understand/master the learning target. This success criteria will also spark dialogue and clarify expectations among your grade level during planning when it comes to rater reliability and having the same high expectations across classes and teachers.
The video shows John Hattie and his explanation of the importance of letting students know about learning expectations and success criteria. It is a 9 minute video worth watching. After watching, write an a-ha or a comment on how this would benefit our students or you as a teacher on a stickie and place it on the response board in the PD room. One will be chosen to share out and the author will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card. :0)
