## Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and most 4th graders really love it! Between now and that Thursday, please have kids work on decorating a container to hold their valentines. Pictured below is an example of box that Michael's sells for about \$2.25. I also spotted some at Target. However, a good old fashioned shoe box will do the trick too! Kids should plan to bring in their box no earlier than Monday, February 11th. The class list will come home this coming week for those interested in making cards. A signupgenius link is below for families who would like to contribute to our ice cream sundae party.

## Math

Mrs. Close's Math Class ~ We are more than halfway through Module 4. This week the kids have been practicing classifying angles, measuring angles, drawing angles, and mathematically figuring out complementary and supplementary angles. I think it's safe to say that they had fun playing Hedbanz using the geometry vocabulary. The final part of the unit is based on two-dimensional figures and lines of symmetry. Looking ahead, we'll finish the lessons during the upcoming week and plan to review and assess during the first full week of February. Keep those Exit Ticket corrections coming my way!

Mr. Hart's Math Class ~ Mr. Hart is expected to return on Wednesday, January 30th.

## ELA

Social Studies ~ We have been learning about how the Dutch purchased Manhattan. As far as 4th graders are considered, we want them to know that the Dutch were motivated by controlling land. We'll move on to the English taking control during the upcoming week.

Small Groups ~ All of the groups started reading novels last week. We have Skinnybones, Walk Two Moons, Mr. Tucket, and Herbie Jones going strong. Our goal is to finish the books before leaving for February break. If any reading has to happen at home, it definitely counts as the 20 minutes of required nightly reading.

Read Aloud ~ We started a new book called The Underneath. I hope the kids end up loving the story as much as I do.

Flipgrid ~ Last week the kids made videos to showcase their Ruby Holler creations and explain their favorite part of the book. You can view your child's work on Schoology. Just have your son/daughter log in through Braveslink!

Picture Book Friday ~ Eamon did a great job reading to us on Friday. Finn is up this week.

## Book Orders

All book orders are due tomorrow! If you're ordering online, our class code is GY26J.

## Instruments

The kids only need to bring instruments on Wednesday this week. They lucked out! Both lessons and ensembles on the same day!
