Principal's Weekly Update

January 8, 2021

Dear Wamsutta Families,

Good morning.

From the feedback I've received, the students seem to be doing the best they can with fully remote learning. The attendance has been generally good, and teachers feel they are making progress with kids despite the distance. We have one more week like this at least, so I hope we can all continue our efforts next week as well. I know this is very hard on everybody and I want to let everyone know how thankful we are for student and family effort and support. The staff of WMS will continue to try to make the best of this situation, and we hope to be back in person as soon as possible.

This week, I have information for families who would like to participate in the lunch and breakfast program who cannot get to the High School for pickup, invites to a Be Heard meeting and a Bias-Related Behavior Focus Group, and the PTO meeting link for Tuesday.

Principal

Lunch/Breakfast Pickup and Delivery

While we are learning remotely, we are still offering grab and go breakfast and lunch at Attleboro High School. Our transportation department is available to deliver lunches to families that do not have transportation. Here is the information in English and Spanish.

Be Heard Meeting Invitation

Be Heard will have our next meeting on January 20, 2021. This flyer has the registration information.

For those who are unfamiliar, Be Heard is a community coalition attempting to increase family voice in the schools and improve both equity and inclusion for all students.

Family Focus Group: Bias-Related Behavior

APS is developing a process to address bias-related behavior. An important part of this initiative involves hearing multiple perspectives from a variety of stakeholders. In an effort to put family voices at the forefront of this process, you are encouraged to join one of the Family Focus Groups.

The middle school focus group will be opened on January 13 from 11 AM to 7 PM for interested families to pop in virtually. More information in the PDF below.

Second Notice: Neighbors in Dialogue

The flyer for the next Neighbors in Dialogue community conversation scheduled for January 13 is below. This month's topic is race and education. Everyone is invited, though I imagine the participants will be capped at some point.

You can register here.

Running Notice: Yearbook Ordering Available

Mr. Duquette and Ms. Medeiros are working to put together a yearbook to document this year. While we won't be able to put in all the pictures of dances, events, guest speakers, and the like that we usually do, we thought it important to chronicle this school year in some way. The earlier you purchase a yearbook, the less expensive it is. Early orders get a discounted rate.

Yearbook ordering is open and can be found here.
