Calling All Emerald Sketch Families
In response to families seekng an uplifting, pleasant way to commemorate the anniversary of 12/14, The Emerald Sketch and the Resiliency Center of Newtown are pleased to announce an art exhibit entitled "The Emerald Sketch Art: Paper Sculptures of Safe Places," to be held at the state Capitol building in Hartford on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 10 am - 5 pm.
By sharing the beautiful works emerging during art therapy, we hope to increase public awareness of the benefits of art therapy in overcoming the effects of trauma.
Artists' names will remain confidential, and will be identified only as participants of The Emerald Sketch art therapy program. The paper sculptures to be displayed will be selected after careful consideration and in consultation with you and your child.
The exhibit may travel to other locations. You may, of course, reclaim your artwork following the close of the Hartford exhibit should you wish.
If you are interested in participating or permitting your child's artwork to be displayed, please contact Nicole at info@emeraldsketch.com.
The exhibit will be open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm. Tours of the exquisite state Capitol building will be offered throughout the day and interactive artwork will be on display.
The evening continues in the same location with drinks, hors d'oeuvres and music. The evening promises to be an enjoyable experience of resilience and community strength.
We hope you'll join us!

School Field Trip to the State Capitol Art Exhibit
Nicole has contacted the First Selectman's office, suggesting that Newtown schools consider a field trip to the State Capitol on December 13th, perhaps also touring art museums and historical sites in the Hartford area. However, no formal request has been submitted to the Board of Education or the administration.
If you are interested in approaching the Board of Education about a school field trip to Hartford on December 13th, The Emerald Sketch and the Resiliency Center of Newtown are happy to support your request.
