SCHOOL NUTRITION NEWSLETTER
message from the director
Strange having Friday the 13th this close to Halloween, but I do know that wrapping up National School Lunch Week was totally lucky for students. You fed more students than ever before and they seemed to really relate to the Level Up gaming theme! Thank you to those who have been sending pictures, I've included a special gallery. While the high school didn't do the Level Up promotion, they did spend the week sampling new products and getting student feedback. One thing we know for sure is the importance of our program to families, especially in times like these with extremely high food costs. I continue to dream that we will once again make meals free for all just like bus transportation is. No more stigma, no more hunger. Healthy school meals are proven to increase academic success, reduce absenteeism and lessen behavior problems.
Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor the Universal School Meal Program Act of 2023 which would create a permanent nationwide Healthy School Meals for All program, increase reimbursement rates for school meals, end lunch shaming, reimburse schools for meal debt, provide incentives for local food procurement and expand summer meal access. Click https://p2a.co/zxswiij and spend only 10 seconds to send a message and show your support!
With gratitude,
Kathy
