The Super Seahorse
By Dominic Fusco
Introduction
What ocean creature swims through coral reefs and is 0.9 - 12 feet tall? You guessed it the Sea Horse. I will tell you about the Sea Horse’s diet, life cycle/reproduction, and body structure/appearance.
life cycle/reproduction
The Sea Horse’s life cycle and reproduction is very interesting. First of all this fascinating creature goes from egg to nymph to adult. The Seahorse has eight to 600 offspring. While in the mating embrace, the female forces the eggs into a pouch on the other side of the male. The eggs are fertilized in the pouch and stay there for three weeks. After the eggs hatch that the baby’s look like their parents. As you can see the life cycle and reproduction of the seahorse is very unique.
Diet
The Sea Horse’s diet is nothing compared to our diet. This tiny creature eats tiny fish, brine shrimp, and plankton. The Seahorse obtains its food by sucking it in through its snout. The Seahorse is an omnivore and eats plants and animals. As you can see the Sea Horse’s diet is nothing compared to ours.
body structure/appearance
The body structure and appearance of the Seahorse is not what you might expect. The Seahorse is closely related to the pipe fish because of their lengths. The color of this creature changes around the environment it’s in and what species of Seahorse it is. Also they have rocky plates as their bones. As you can see the body structure and appearance of the Seahorse is not what you might expect.
