Principal's Message/Mesaje De Director
Estimadas familias,
Dra. Melvin

Dear Families,
I hope you all are doing well. Happy December to you! This week has certainly been winter-like and I know we have been close to seeing some snow on the ground. As the pictures below show, we all enjoyed our Family-Teacher conferences last week and it was great to listen in on the many conversations and to hear about the progress that our students have made. I want to give a big shout out to our teachers for working long hours to meet with families and putting in the time and effort to give important feedback. In this first week of December, we have begun our focus on our monthly theme of caring and kindness. As we approach the end of this calendar year and the many winter holidays, I know there is much to celebrate and appreciate. I know that this is a time when many in our community are also struggling and we aim to be supportive and kind to all in our community. Please reach out to us if you or your family is struggling and is in need of assistance during this time. Also, I know our PTA is organizing a movie night upcoming on Thursday, December 15 and I hope to see you all join us for this event. Have a great weekend!
Dr. Melvin

We are planning a change to our Grades 1-5 student arrival and dismissal routine that will begin on Monday, December 12.
For the morning, we will no longer have students line up by class in specific areas, rather students will "gather, greet and mingle" in groups outside the door/entrance that is closest to their classroom. At the first bell @ 7:55am, staff monitors will open the doors and students will enter the building and walk to their classrooms (with the goal of starting morning meeting @ 8am). Teachers will be in the classroom doorways and can greet students as they enter. This arrival map shows where each class will gather.
For dismissal, teachers will walk students out in a line to the same areas where students gathered in the morning and release students to parents/families/guardians.
Here are some additional details:
The breakfast routine will stay the same (cafeteria doors will open @ 7:45am and students will walk to classrooms @ 7:55am bell). Breakfast for late arriving students will still be available at the front entrance.
We plan to create materials to give guidance to students and families on the new procedures next week (expectations, videos, directions)
Kinder students are also switching their morning routine starting next Monday, December 5 and all Kinder students will be arriving in the cafeteria between 7:45-8:00am (whether they eat breakfast or not).
Students are not required to enter at the entrance designated for their class on the map (i.e.- they may want to walk in with a sibling from a different grade), but we hope most will follow the map guidelines.
We will observe and monitor how this routine works and will make any changes as needed.
