Work Stress
Work stress 'damages health as much as secondhand smoke'
Intro
Studies done by researchers from Harvard Business School and Stanford University have proven that people with work-related stress are 50% more likely to be diagnosed with a mental condition.
The Issue
The reason this work stress is worse than secondhand smoke is due to the fact that smoking is banned in many restaurants, workplaces and parks where people spend most of their days. This deathly secondhand smoke is avoidable unlike work.
You go to work five days a week, usually for about eight hours a day, often more. You can't take breaks during work when you're feeling tired or stressed without taking the risk of getting fired or behind your quota and having to work longer to make up therefore causing you more stress.
The Solution
To solve this problem, researchers said it'd be best to cut down on work hours, give workers a more unpredictable schedule or let the workers have more time to spend at home with their friends and family. Workers need time to relax and spend quality time with those they love, as to help with this stress and I believe workplaces should give their employees more free time to do what they love and maybe they'll get better work ethics too.
