High School Highlights
Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
Week of October 17
We are officially in the second quarter of the 2022-2023 school year! Our students finished the quarter strong and we are excited for you to see the results of their hard work. Please remember, grade cards will be live in PowerSchool on Thursday, October 20 at 8:00am.
Please be sure to scan our family newsletter each week to stay in-the-know on everything happening at the high school. The second quarter often feels the busiest with events and celebrations both in school and in our lives outside of school. We don't want you to miss anything!
Our annual group picture day, as well as our Class of 2023 Senior Panoramic Photo will take place on Friday, October 21. See the information below for more details.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.
Powder Puff 2022!
The 2022 Powder Puff Football Game is hosted by The Big Walnut High School National Honor Society. All proceeds from ticket sales will be used to support recycling efforts at the High School and to support families in need over the Holiday Season. The game will take place on Monday, October 17th starting at 6:15 pm. Come out to cheer on the girls for only $5.
Jostens Class Meetings on Thursday
This Thursday, October 20, a representative from Jostens will be here to discuss Class Rings with our sophomore students and Caps, Gowns and Graduation Accessories with our senior students. The meeting for sophomores will take place during 2nd period and for seniors during 3rd period.
Group Picture Day and Senior Panoramic Photo
This Friday, October 21, we will have our BWHS Club picture day. Club pictures will be taken throughout the whole day in the main gym. Students will need to check the schedule to see what time their groups will be photographed. Schedules will be posted in the Commons and on the front door all week so students are able to check.
In addition, we will take our Class of 2023 Senior Panoramic Photo in the main gym at the beginning of 3rd period (9:30am). All seniors should plan to wear a white t-shirt for this photo!

CCP-Spring 2023
Students planning to take College Credit Plus Courses through Columbus State Community College online or on a campus for Spring 2023 should submit completed registration documents to Dr. Jordan in the school counseling office as soon as possible. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Jordan for assistance, please scan the QR code located throughout the building.
Pre-ACT Given in December
The pre-ACT (practice ACT) is scheduled for December. The test will be $17 and registration for it will open at the end of October. This is an excellent opportunity for all students to prepare for the ACT which is given to all students in the spring of junior year for FREE (one-time only). Students who achieve college ready scores on the ACT earn a college ready seal. As a reminder, all students need 2 of 12 available seals to graduate. Additional details regarding graduation requirements are located here.
Current CCP Students
The last day to drop an Autumn 2022 CCP class offered through CSCC is November 1. You will receive a "W" for dropping the class but it will not affect your high school or college GPA. Please remember: although dropping a class at this point will not affect your GPA, it will require that you repay the district for the cost of the class. Please see Dr. Jordan for additional information.

BWHS Academic Boosters
Academic Boosters - who are we? We are a group of organized parents who provide support to help improve the academic experience for all students, parents, and staff at BWHS. We provide An Evening of Excellence in September to recognize sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earned a 3.5 GPA the previous year. We sponsor the annual Academic and Military Signing in the spring for graduating seniors who have been offered college scholarships and graduating seniors who have enlisted in Military Services. Students who earn a 5 on their AP exam receive a High Five yard sign provided by and delivered to their home by members of the Academic Boosters. Our staff at BWHS is crucial to the success of our students and the academic booster parents show them just how much we appreciate them by providing a few very small tokens of appreciation during staff appreciation week in April. We have many other ideas of ways we can expand and continue to support the academic efforts of our students and staff! We are looking forward to a productive and fun year!
Meetings are typically at 6:30pm on the second Monday of each month. (No December meeting.) This year, our meetings are as follows: 11/14, 1/9, 2/6, 3/13, 4/3, and 5/8.
