Incoming TK & Kindergarten Enrollment
3/01/2017 NEW TK & Kindergarten Enrollment Appointments HAVE BEGUN
On March 1, 2017, Kindergarten enrollment began for the 2017-18 school year. A child is eligible to begin Kindergarten if his/her fifth birthday falls on or before September 1, 2017. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is for students who turn five on or between September 2 and December 2, 2017.
Please go to the Vannoy website, click on the Parents tab and select Enrollment to begin the enrollment process for your child. You must complete online enrollment and have all support paperwork - i.e. birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency, physical and dental forms - completed before you contact the office for an appointment. Once you have all items together and have completed online enrollment, please contact the Vannoy Office at 510-537-1832 to set up an appointment to bring your documentation in to complete enrollment. The office takes appointments between 8:00-11:30 a.m. ONLY Monday through Friday.
If you have any questions, we are happy to help. Please call us at 510-537-1832. Thank you.
Immunization Requirement Information
As of January 2016, California Law requires that all children show proof of vaccination against diseases listed in Health and Safety Code 120325 prior to attending public or private school. Due to enactment of SB 277 parents/guardians of students in California schools and childcare facilities are no longer permitted to submit exemptions to required vaccines, based on their personal or religious beliefs regarding vaccines.
Any pupil seeking admission to a given public or private elementary or secondary school, who lacks documentation of having received all the reqwuired vaccine doses against polio, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DPT/Tdap), measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), hepatitis B and varicella (chicken pox), and has not obtained a permanent or temporary medical exemption shall not be allowed admission until requirements have been met.
TK/Kindergarten Specific Information:
California schools are required to check immunization records for all new student admissions at Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten, students must be up to date on their immunizations to attend school. To attend school, your child's immunization records must show the date for each required shot, or if you rchild has not received all required shots, call your doctor now for an appointment. If a licensed physician (MD or DO) determines vaccines should not be given to your child because of medical reasons, submit a written exemption for the missing shot(s), including the duration of the medical exemption. A personal or religious beliefs exemption is no longer an option for entry into school.
Required Vaccines:
Polio: 4 doses (3 doses OK if one was given on or after 4th birthday)
DTP/DTap/DT: 5 doses (4 doses OK if one was given on or after 4th birthday)
MMR or MMR-V: 2 doses (Both doses given on or after 1st birthday. Only one dose of mumps and rubella vaccines are required if given separately.)

March Word of the Month – Cooperation
Work well with others. Be a team player. Have an open mind and listen effectively.
Lego Robotics
We will be starting Lego Robotics right after Spring Break. This is a fun program for students to learn how to program and control their robots using Lego Mindstorms robot kits. This program is parent-run, so if you are interested, you will need to get your Volunteer Clearance competed before you start. The Lego Mindstorms kits are provided; there is a max of three students per team. Student signups will be coming out soon via Remind. Parent Volunteer students will be given priority. Please contact the office if you are interested.
Parent Club Leadership 2017-2018
We are appreciative of how much our Parent Club supports the many essential programs at Vannoy. This includes our PEP program, Music for Minors, instructional materials, study trips, as well as other fun events throughout the year. The Parent Club is looking for enthusiastic and willing people to serve on the board next year. All positions are open for nominations. I hope that we will be able to count on the continued support from the Parent Club. Please email Tina Mitchell the PC President (VannoyPresident@gmail.com) or myself (gko@cv.k12.ca.us) if you have questions.
Summer Enrichment Program
As we approach the end of the year with Field Trips, Please remember:
- All paperwork for driving on a field trip must be turned in 2 weeks prior to the scheduled date of the field trip. This paperwork must be processed and any delays in turning in your paperwork place your student's class at risk of having the field trip cancelled.
- Parents are not allowed to bring siblings to/on a field trip.
- Parents shall not deter from the instructions given by the teacher.
- Parents should not make any stops to/or from the field trip.
- If a parent wants to show up at the field trip - you MUST have permission from the teacher (in advance) and Megan's Law clearance turned in 2 weeks in advance.
- All of these rules are for the safety of your child. Please do not put your child's teacher in an awkward position of having to say something in front of other parents or students.
- Every parent/guardian who is considering volunteering for any school activity must have a Megan's Law form in place. Please don't wait until the last minute as paperwork will not be processed.

Safety After School
Parent Interactions
Vannoy's Parent Educator Program (PEP) Needs You! Make a Difference in our Kids Lives!
PEP promotes resiliency and healthy life choices in children, so they can reduce the likelihood of using and abusing harmful substances in later years.
The program has an explicit "no use" message with an interactive format that engages children to learn resistance skills, develop self-esteem and cultivate responsible decision making.
How does it Work?
The Vannoy PEP program is for 3-5 graders. Lessons are 45-60 minutes long and are delivered by teams of 2 parents over a 6 week period for each grade. Lessons have been developed and scripted so that Parent Teachers can easily step in and deliver the information. Teaching experience is NOT required and there is very minimal prep time needed. Our kids learn a lot with these age appropriate lessons. They also really enjoy and look forward to them.
We are currently finishing up lessons for 4th and 5th graders in the next few weeks . . . you are welcome to come and observe!
Next year we will have "On the Job" Training where new trainers will be paired with experienced trainers.
