Learning at Home -May 27, 2020
We miss you all!
The faculty and staff at Miner miss our students so much! We hope you are all staying happy and healthy during these difficult times.
As a reminder, the teachers finish Learning at Home this week! Please take a few minutes to thank them for the amazing job they have done being flexible and figuring out Learning at Home on such short notice! They are truly amazing!
In addition, we thank you, parents/guardians! We always value you as our partners but this year more than ever you have been forced to become our co-teachers on a daily basis and for that we are grateful!
Have a safe and happy summer!
Re-Enrollment for SY 20-21
Re-enrollment for next school year is off to a great start! The goal is to be 50% re-enrolled by the end of this week so please submit your re-enrollment application as soon as possible.
It can be completed here: https://forms.dc.gov/f/DCPSEnrollmentForm_English
If you have enrollment specific questions please email Mineresenroll@k12.dc.gov for assistance. Please remember you need to be fully re-enrolled to qualify for aftercare and we expect after care enrollment to open in the next month or two.
As a reminder, all families returning to Miner must complete enrollment paperwork each school year.
Promotional Activities
We are very sad that we will not get to celebrate promotions of our PK4, Kindergarten, and 5th grade students in person this year. It is such a magical time of the school year and we miss our students and families so much. With that said, our Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 5th grade teams are each planning some amazing virtual promotion activities for June. More details will follow to those specific grades so that everyone can attend and enjoy while being socially distant.
Summer Learning
DCPS has moved summer learning to an online format for this summer. More details can be found here:
dcps.dc.gov/summer In addition, several of the online learning platforms will remain available for different periods of the summer. Some will expire on July 1 and others will stay active through September. Once we have a comprehensive list of the end dates for each program we will share them but all of them will stay active at least through June.
Feeding Site
Food can be picked up between 10am-2pm each day in the front lobby. This is a grab-and-go service.
Student Belongings
We will continue to safeguard student belongings left at school until the Mayor’s stay at home order is lifted. Once it is safe to do so, we will invite families to come in and pick up items left in the building in a safe and socially distanced way. Unfortunately, we still do not know when that will be as of yet.
Student Retention
Many families have been asking about grade level placement for next year. Students are not being penalized for the time spent Learning at Home. Unless teachers and administration have already spoken to a family (before our last day on March 16th) students will be advancing to their next grade level.
Technology
As Learning at home comes to an end we will begin to collect back some of the technology lent out.
Chromebook's (PTO Devices) - these devices will need to be returned in early June. We will communicate a schedule out to those families who received the generous loan from the PTO.
Microsoft Surface Devices - These devices will remain with families for the summer unless 1) the student is not re-enrolled for next year and 2) The student is leaving Miner Elementary School. Yes - this does include out 5th grade friends, too.
We will send out a schedule of days and times during which devices must be returned to the school in the near future.
