Carmel Chronicles
October 2021
A Message from Mrs. Schall
Dear CES Community,
October has been an exciting month. Students have gotten into the groove and are showing some great growth, academically and socially.
NWEA Student Progress Reports: Our students have completed the NWEA test and we are proud of the efforts that they made. A document called the Student Progress Report will be coming home in your child's report card. Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions.
Gearing Up: It's that time of year again where students need to dig out their coats, hats and mittens. Please make sure that your child comes to school prepared for outdoor play each day. They may not always need them, but it is key to have them when we do need them.
Extra Clothing: Please help us out by making sure that your child has an extra set of "season appropriate" clothing in their backpacks. We do have frequent spills and accidents where students need to change an article of clothing. Having extra clothes helps us to ensure that they can get back to class in a timely manner.
The Carmel Cats Way: This month in our All-School Assembly we talked about the P, in word PAWS, which stands for Practice Respect. We talked about ways that you can show respect to another person. For example, looking someone it the eye when you are speaking. Using words like please, thank you and excuse me. We also discussed how important it is to think before we speak, so that we make sure our words are respectful. We are seeing a LOT of students who are practicing respect. It is exciting to see!
Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful week. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schall

A Message From Mrs. Exley
Dear CES Community,
It's hard to believe that we are already nearing the end of October! It's during this time of year that we all begin looking forward to the upcoming holiday season, making plans to celebrate with family and friends. It is also a time to think about others, and we recognize that many families in our community struggle with providing the food and necessary items (i.e. warm clothing) for their families during the winter months. Knowing this we would like to extend our support to any family in our school district who may be in need of help. This year we will be offering food and help with items necessary for the winter months. If you are interested in signing your family up to receive a holiday box please email me at aexley@rsu87.org or call the school at 848-3113.
If you are interested in signing up to make a donation for our holiday giving program, we would appreciate any support you would like to provide. Please reach out to me by email or phone I've listed above.
I hope you are all doing well!
Classroom Spotlight: 3rd Grade
Miss Dalton's Class
In Miss Dalton’s 3rd grade class this month, we did an engineering activity involving toothpicks and candy corn! Teams had 20 minutes to develop and execute a plan to try and build the tallest tower with the materials given! Here are some photos from this activity!
Ms. LaBelle's Class
In Ms. LaBelle's class we have been learning about inherited traits recently and the students were able to do an activity involving random variation! They determined their flower's traits based on whether the coin landed on heads or tails to show how random inheriting traits can be and the different combinations. They really enjoyed the activity, and learning about how traits are randomly selected!
